Hit the Titleist 905R today

Recommended Posts

Yep I like...
This head is damm good. JHR and I hooked up and hit some balls. I hit his new 905R and I am still rattled. I play a retail Cleveland Comp 10.5* head and love the thing.

JHR's 905r was a 9.5 played true to loft and sets up real nice behind the ball. I felt the driver was hot as hell!!! Felt like balls were springing off the face like they do with my Comp. Cant sat that normally about the older Titleist models for me. Good news for me and I have high grades for their first 460cc head. The sound of the R was fine for me. Wasnt muted but also wasnt the sonic boom the Cleveland gives. I couldnt put the driver down. Very excited to hit a Titleist driver that well. Very forgiving!

Also the ball was moving in both directions. Fades, and draws. (some unintentional) :)

Great head and real excited to get one to have some more time with one.

Does it have the balance and weight of previous Titleist drivers (ie heavy)? Also, is it noticeably more forgiving than the K?

John (JHR) could answer better than I. He has a lot of Titleist driver history.

Similar distance to your COMP? How about spin?

Distance I saw was simular. Nothing noticably shorter or longer. I say the spin was somular also. I didnt hit it any better than my comp but even hitting it the same as the COmp says a lot. I felt they were equals.

Head sets up nice. Gives you the feeling that anything goes and it will go good.

Guys,

Thanks for the pics and reviews on the new Titleist stuff. I've got a birthday in April and can't wait to add the 905R, 503i and 695cb's to my bag. If you've got time, I have a couple of questions.

905R) I ask this question with every new Titleist driver. I have used the Aldila NV 65, S Flex shaft in both my 983E and current 905S and really think its a good fit for my game. Any thoughts on how this shaft may perform in the larger 905R? I see it used in other 460cc heads, so I'm willing to gamble. Given my preference to this shaft, is there a new shaft I may want to consider?

F3-05) Are the rumors still tour issue only?

503i) How does it compare to the 503H?

Thanks,

Mike

Can you compare the launch of the 905R 9.5* to a Taylor Made R7 TP or R5 TP? Thanks.

I cant compare to the R5 tp. Only hit that a few times. And it will be hard to get to precise whent he shafts were different than the R7 tp. But I would say the R produced more spin than the R7. Carried forever. I think the 9.5 I hit went a bit higher than the 9.5 R7. True to loft.

Noticable though was the feeling that the face felt hot. Like the Comp more so than the R7. Just pounded the bal l for my swing. JHR was with me. He has a much faster swing than mine. I was lovin that thing. Cant get it out of the mind.

Okay, thx.

So if I'm in a 9.5* R7 TP the Titleist 905R 9.5* will not launch lower than that.

Hmm....if they release a new player's 3-wood and a square-faced driving iron my bag could be all Titleist for 2006. (cool)

Thanks for the report and pics. The 905r is at the top of my list to try. I'm thinking of one with a 660tr or a Rombax. What shaft was in the one you hit?

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

How was the 905R's launch angle compared to the Comp? I'm also a Comp owner thinking of making the switch to the 905R. I don't get much roll out of my Comp (probably due to the stock fuji shaft geared for lift off), so I would like something that has a mid trajectory. Right now my two favorite drivers to hit at the range are my Comp, and my 983K. Would love it if the 905R had the best of both of them. (cool)

Thanks

  • 1 month later...

Fellas, I have been playing my "R" the last few days - Wow, best driver I've ever hit (including the original Burner Plus with the Flex Twist back in about 1991 :-))... Long, straight, forgiving - more workability than what I had heard.. V2 - 77 grams - x-flex, 7.5 degrees... love the shaft, had been a Speeder 757 man for the last three years... Very happy with he newbie.... Could be three or four years with this bad boy.... Does UST have a decent 3 wood shaft with V2 driver characteristics?? 905R!!!!!!!!!

Need to change my WITB with the new gear!!

i still use a 983k 9.5* with a Grafalloy prolite stiff. i don't like the T because the face is slightly closed at address but the R does look seriously interesting. the biggest requirement i have is that the driver MUST setup square behind the ball and i fear that titleist is starting to close the faces even though they advertise them as square!!. does anyone know why they are doing this?

also, does the V2 launch the ball low? lots of people are raving about this shaft but i haven't seen one here in england! would it fly the ball lower than the prolite?

I just found a Tour Issue 905R on eBay. Thought I would let you guys salivate over it ;)

eBay 905R Tour Issue Auction

Ouch, 7.5 loft on that tour head. I was excited 'till I saw that. Still cool to check out a tour R though.

I'm getting ready to order an R. I just have to decide if it's gonna be a V2 or NV.

Hmm, after hitting my club pro's 905R 8.5* w/V2 76gr stiff couple hours ago and I think I might have found my next driver. I feel that it's much more impressive than other Titleist drivers. I did launch it little high but seems to have a flatter ballspin.
