My latest addiction. - Classic persimmon MacGregor woods. I never get sick of looking at these. You guys remember this one. One of my favorites. When I was a kid , my club pro had this bad boy in his bag.

That's funny that you showed the picture of the persimmon driver. I was just downstairs looking at a couple of mine. I have the 1,3 and 5 woods of Tommy Armour 986 Tours as well as a Yamaha Tour Model with a Lagniappe graphite shaft with Hal Suttons "etched" signature on the top of the driver that acts like a alignment aide. I was comparing them to my 460 Comp and they looked like what a modern day 3 wood looks like! Simp

Ok, so this weekend was interesting. The weather up here in the Northshore of Mass was in the high 50s low 60s, it was like mid april weather Friday and Saturday. I took both my new MacGregor Vintage drivers with some old Titleist balatas over to the local course and hit some drives. I found my Eye O matic M75W to be more responsive than the Tommy Armour 693. I was amazed at how straight and long I hit the M75W. I now know for sure the new technology and new drivers are about 10-20 percent longer than the vintage stuff. I figured I was hitting these about 230-240 into the wind. It was fun. I can't wait to take them out in the summer and play 9 with them.

Boy, that picture brings back memories! I've got a 1, 3, 4, 5 set of those woods.

My driver looks exactly like that one except the sole plate is in a little better condition.

I used that driver from the time I was 16 until I was 36. I had a graphite shaft put in

it in 1986. There is nothing to compare to the feel of "nutting" one with these clubs......

There was a version called the 693T. Looked very similar. It was the Holy Grail driver for about 10 or 15 years. Imagine that today. One driver being the Holy Grail for that long.

The MacGregor Ben Hogan was a fine club. Andy Bean used one.

These are my 693T's and would have been purchased in 1977 or 1978. I still take them out one weekend a year, with Hogan PC irons and a Wilson 8802 putter. The coin is a 1944 Mercury Dime that has been my ball marker for about 25 years.
