Traveling to Phoenix.....Some course info for you

Wife and I are renting a house on Las Sendas at the end of the month. I wanted to play there 5 years ago when we made our first trip out there. I was thinking of playing Las Sendas and LongBow because they are close. I'll figure out the rest in the next few weeks, but could use some feedback on those 2 if anyone can provide it. Thanks!

I played Las Sendas end of last year for the first time (fairly new to the valley FYI) and it is a nice course and pretty challenging. There are some blind shots, both off the tee and into greens, the course can be very tough if hitting to wrong sides of fairways or greens. Tee positions and setup will have your sightline one direction when it should be in another.

All in all, it's a fun course, but tough. If I were to play it 3-4 more times it would most likely be easier/ more enjoyable as I would have a "feel" for where I my target lines need to be.

Hope you enjoy, let us know how it turns out after you play.

Thanks for the info. We have a course here in Wisconsin called Hidden Glen, that has 2 holes with blind shots into the green....both are wedge shots. I don't mind blind tee shots, that's part of the deal, but blind wedge shots into the green is just stupid. The reviews on GolfNow are really positive for Las Sendas, and it seems that you appreciate the layout and maybe with some more rounds, could adjust the strategy a bit. I think we will play it and I'll be sure to leave some feedback here when we return. Can't wait to get to the desert and out of Wisconsin for a bit.

Looking for some more community feedback because you all didn’t steer me wrong last time!

Coming back for a week. In Jan played a number of great courses and had the time of my life: both Grayhawk, most of WeKoPa (all of Cholla and 16 of 18 on Saguaro, but it was a crappy rainy day all day, definitely a must-repeat), Troon Pinnacle, Verde River, Verrado).

Coming back this week for a week with the wife and looking for suggestions on anything that I may have missed and should play this time around? We are staying at Grayhawk and would love to get to Southern Dunes but don’t think she’ll stand for the drive.

Coworker mentioned Boulders so may check that out. Also will replay Grayhawk, Troon Monument, and Saguaro.

Enjoy your trip. If not willing to drive, then the only other real option is Legend Trail and Boulders. For good 'golf' with no major views: TPC Champions.

You could do Eagle Mountain for a fun easy round too.

I will second Legend Trail like that course alot just booked April 4th to the 11th this morning this will like about trip 45 will combine a couple Redsox Dbacks games along with the golf. Btw Southern Dunes is worth the drive or a little shorter than SD would be Whirlwind

Update on the request. Wife hated the vibe of Troon, very transient/“golf focused” if that’s a term, loved the vibe of Grayhawk. Think she’ll enjoy Verde as well. Was going to play WeKoPa but fearful that it’ll be too much like Troon in vibe if that makes sense. Love the course but have played both and would rather keep her engaged. Any other courses with the Grayhawk vibe or should I keep the wife happy and replay?

Here's my lineup for end of March - first week of April. Let me know if I should stay clear of any of these. I was trying to stay between $100 and $125 per.

Staying in Mesa on Las Sendas...

Las Sendas

Longbow

Papago (Only course in this lineup wife and I have played before)

Sidewinder

Copper Canyon (hour drive)

Wickenburg Ranch (1.5 hr drive)

+ 1 day in Sedona

There always seemed to be varying opinions but, when I lived out there I always thought Las Sendas was an awesome and underrated course! But it's tough!!

Coming out in 10 days. Great thread has been very helpful. So here's my questions.

Where to stay. I'll have a car And very flexible schedule except for the 1 day of "business"

Want a nice hotel (not a resort) around some good eats. Budget around $180 to $200 a night.

Considering the new Cambria up near Desert Ridge (where I may try and get an afternoon round in on day of arrival----12:30 arrival)

Or considering Biltmore area-Homewood Suites.

Free day am most likely going to book Greyhawk. Also considering Troon, but this thread has me leaning more towards GH, due to the atmosphere. Could possibly do the 36 hole speicial.

Any other advice or thoughts on the above.

Decent course, but not a desert course per se. Cramped in some areas, good greens and conditions. You are not going to be wowed by it by any stretch. For the $ it is not worth it this time of year unless you get lucky on price. Papago would be better value. W/o knowing your other courses played, tough to give you further input.

As a follow up to my above questions about location. Arriving at Sky Harbor at 12:30 and getting a rental car, what would be a realistic/safe time to set an afternoon tee time. Or in lieu of that what are the odds of walking on one of the nicer courses at say 2:30 or 3:00 on a Tuesday afternoon as a single for play?

If I'm going to do GreyHawk on Thursday, I was thinking either Wildfire or TPC Champions? Anything else that makes more sense?

Raven is fine, not worth the price being charged, but ok if that is what you need for your logistics- Southern Dunes is head and shoulders above and probably even less $........You should definitely get rid of Rancho Manana...that is a kip of a course and totally not worth the $. If you are staying in the N Scottsdale area, then look at Legend Trail or Verde River; even McDowell Mtn. - almost anything other than RM.

Thanks for the input. I've played Tegavah (Verde River) and loved it. Wife doesn't like Legend Trail and we've played McDowell Mtn. I was trying to play something new. If you don't like Rancho that much I could switch it, but it looks nice and out in the sticks a bit.

Eh...just play it then...the views are nice. It's just a gimmicky, odd course. Bring extra golf balls.

Thanks for all the feedback. I booked Southern Dunes for Friday.
