Lets talk trajectory

What is your current trajectory, and what is your prefered trajectory? I hit the ball way up there, higher than anyone I have ever seen. I want something that goes about 12° launch and with 2500 rpms vs my 13° launch and 3500 rpms.

I had until the middle part of this year always had a mid-low trajectory with all my clubs, which I found was mostly credited to slight casting on the way down. This being one of my major swing changes, I have gotten myself more upright, and eliminated all casting, and my ball flight has raised consideriably. Do I hit the ball a mile in the air, no. I hit the ball fairly high with my driver, but that is because the shaft/head combo is built to hit moon balls (Comp w/a Grafalloy Prolaunch). All my other clubs have a nice mid ball flight which is fairly desirable for 95% of the time. There have certainly been situations/courses that I would die to have a higher ball flight, but I think I can work with what my swing has produced. I think with a Mid-High ball flight you can keep the ball in the fairway a little bit better, while still being able to carry it a pretty good distance aswell (on those wet days).

 

Just on a side note: I like to keep all my wedges on the lowest controlable ball flight I possibly can - I have found that this helps with spot on distance control as well as spin issues.

I have a real high down range ball flight but it doesnt balloon. It gets up there fast and penetrates downrange....sometimes it is too high but i have worked hard and learned how to work the ball high low left and right.

I hit the ball low to mid with ever club. When im down wind I can hit the ball higher if I want but i have found that I have alot more control with a lower ball flight.

The same with my irons, I have really mastered just taking the ball of the top of the grass with very little to no divot and then getting the ball to to hit the green take one hop and stop.

Because I play a liitle fade the ball always lands pritty soft on the green and I very rarely have to worry about it going over the back.

I'm switching some stuff around and teh results have definately lowered the flight. Mainly I am eliminating any tendancy to drop it tot eh inside from the top and I am following down my line more.

If you already have a high traj, the racs are going to make it even higher. Or do you want a higher traj?

It's probably because you're not swinging down on the ball enough. High trajectory doesn't necesarily cure a lower spin player. Spin is created by the ball compressing on the face, and if you 'pinch' the ball - hence swing down on it, you will put more spin on the ball. Personally I wouldn't reccomend getting a higher launching iron if you already have a high ball flight. Just focus on hitting ball first then the ground, and that should help a bit.

Use to balloon the ball alot with the driver at the beginning to middle of last year. Figured out a swing change, and now the ball is flying low to mid. My distance with the driver became alot more consistent, and longer. Irons fly mid.

I have a high, "pro-style" trajectory with the driver, however I play a rifle in my irons which looks like a SAM being launched it goes so high, gonna have to have that looked at.

Mid launch (13*) with low spin (2200RPM) with my driver. My launch on my irons is probably a little too low but overall my trajectory is good in the frequent windy conditions.

I have quite possibly the lowest launch - spin characteristics ever recorded on a launch monitor (roughly 6 degrees of launch with a driver, and MAYBE 2000 RPM of spin).....needless to say its something I'm trying to work on.

My current ball flight with the driver is a high, non-penatrating ballflight with a slight cut. I just bought a new driver to try and bring the spin numbers down, with a little bit lower launch.

 

Irons: I have a mid/high ball flight with my irons, also with a slight cut. I'm going to start working on drawing the ball again to pick up some yardage.

With my driver I have a mid/high ball flight, and my irons fly pretty high and stop pretty quickly. My natural shot shape is a draw, but this year I'm working on my fade.

My current ball flight when I hit it good is medium trajectory with a little fade on that bad boy. I like that ball flight, but I'm having some problems hitting blocks... :rolleyes:

I hit my driver fairly high - 15* launch and 3000rpms, but i'd say my irons are pretty much middle to slightly above average trajectory

Well last year I had a very low trajectory 10* launch, with 2000rpm spinn. But now I am hitting nice and high, if i hit my 6 iron into just a little 3-5mph headwind, it will ballon on me.

I like a low-mid trajectory with my driver with about 3300 RPM's of spin and a low trajectory with my irons and wedges (just switched from Slingshot OSS's to MP-57's).

Two years ago my trajectory was all screwed up because of my swing. When you're hitting a 7.5* driver with a LA of 17* there's something wrong.

 

Anyway, I got my swing fixed and the last time I was on a launch monitor I was launching my 9.5* Launcher Ti at 12.5*-13.5* with about 2800 rpms.

since we're on the subject, can anyone tell me the best way to keep my driver from ballooning?

it is a major problem for me. i can almost never hit a fairway, and that's why my scores are so high because i have to take an extra shot or two to make up for a bad drive....

 

and also, my traj is high for 5-PW, but hybrids give me a mid to low penetrating shot.

Mine is weird sometimes. I tend to release a little early making me flip the ball up in the air. But, this also makes me lose much distance.

I hit a high ball and it balloons into the wind with the irons. I have x flex in the driver and 3 wood, so they're fine, but the irons go way too high and I can't afford at the moment to buy some x100's. I prefer a mid ballflight, but haven't had that for months.

I hit a high draw naturally, but at the moment i'm hitting my irons incredibly high because the lofts on my Nike blades are very weak, so i am going to get them delofted by a few degrees. Personally i think it's better to hit the ball high, if you look at the pros the vast majority of them hit the ball very high and unless you play on a links a higher ballflight is easier to control.

I like to play the ball low. I try to really get my hands forward at contract so I can "compress" the ball.

Damn this thread is old. I remember it the first time! I hit a medium trajectory shot with a flat ball flight. Little cut or draw depending on what the shot calls for. Naturally draw the short irons and fade the long irons. I'm a big fan of the small cut.

I had a high fade going, but now that i have switched the shafts in my irons from R300 (dynalite.. misfit), to a S400 (dynamite gold)..
