Best Knock off ever

Ok the ugliest Iron thread made me think that maybe a best Knockoff Irons thread might be in order.. Did you ever have a set of Knockoffs you liked so much that it was hard justifying new HIgher end stuff? And I'm not talking about component stuff that is unique I'm talking true Knockoffs.

I played a set of Lynx Parallax Knockoffs called ESS (Expanded Sweet Spot) for about 5 years and loved them... Still have them in the garage in fact.

I had the King Snake which was a King Cobra knockoff years ago. Supposedly they were the same club head but sold "out the backdoor" of the foundry in China. Played them for a while until got a set of King Cobras at auction of a golf store closing.

Did they feel the same?

BTW I knew so many people with the King Snakes back in the day.

I would ask the mods to remove this thread as the production of knock-offs is illegal. This discussion has no place on this board.

Are knock-offs illegal? I know clones are, but knock-offs generally aren't marketed as being authentic. I know a few legitimate golf retailers in the area that have sold or are currently selling knock-off equipment. But they are in no way trying to pass it off as authentic. Knock-offs typically have many differences from the actual retail product and even a novice can tell a difference.

Clones are a completely different story...

I had a set of knock of Ping eye 2's that I played for 5 or 6 years until the shafts started to buckle above the hosel.

Bought them new for $185 at the time. I think they tried to replicate the eye 2 grooves as well; these would shred balls all the way up to the 6 iron. When I went after an iron shot you could hear the sizzle of the ball shavings through the air as the ball took off.

Fun stuff. :black eye:

I too played Ping Eye 2 knockoffs. I think they were called "Tour Model 2"s or something like that. They were built for me by a guy at a local driving range and felt just as good as the real thing to me. They also made woods that looked performed like the old TM burner series of FW woods and drivers (flex twist shafts and all).

I would nominate most Cameron putters as the best knock offs ever made.

LOL , great one ! I agree.

Back on topic , the King Snakes were very popular. I don't think they were a re-logo'd head though. I have an Uncle who played the King Snakes until the face literally concaved. Great ball striker and single digit player that just fell in love with those clubs. I hope the real things wouldn't cave in like that. I am guessing they had a lower grade material.

In the 90s I played the Tommy Armour 845 knockoffs. They were Accu Trac XL 400s. Nice clubs. I thought they hit as good as the 845s. Bought them at a reputable golf store. Those clubs were really pushed by sales people back then.

I had the same clubs! They now belong to my dad. I really liked them, there was extremely little transition when I was given a set of 845s.

As for the best knock-off, I had a fake two-ball putter from Wal-Mart with a black-and-white candy-striped grip and an alignment line through the 2 balls (before Odyssey got wise and did that). It's my favorite mallet I've ever used, though I've since ditched it for Anser-style putters.

I don't know if this qualifies as a knockoff, but when Ping TiSi's were the hot driver, I demoed an Integra driver that was very similar in size and shape of TiSi. It was a pretty awesome driver w/ the old Prolite 35S shaft.

I had a set of Tour Model 2's made in the Beryillium heads. Loved Em!!! Saved up to get some real Ping eye 2's, played them for 2 weeks and went back to the Tour Model 2's. I played them again till I got the Top Flite tours when they first came out and sold the TM 2's wish I never got rid of them, they felt great!! Would have made a great back up set.

I had a set of TA knockoff's believe during the late80's early 90's they were called 755's??. Great clubs, had them shafted with DG's and custom fitted, I actually liked them more than the original TA's, better feel and less offset in the long irons.

I also had a set of Tour Model II's prior to this that I bought from Golfsmith, they were total crap. It was my first set of clubs after a starter set I bought from a friend in college. A friend of mine and myself ordered the componets, 1-LW and slapped them together, we actually did a decent job, but the specs were all off on the clubheads. I found that my favorite club in the set was a 1 irons, het it great, but when I had the specs checked I found it had the loft of a 4 iron, is was kind of like a hybrid for me.
