Respect

do your peers/school give you any respect?
I was just wondering if you guys get any respect for your accomplishments in golf. At my high school, our athletics are poor, and last season i had 4 wins, a 15th at state, set two school records, and led the team to a 6th place finish at state, the best ever. I, however, didn't get any recognition for my accomplishments. It's not like i'm really bummed by it, i was just wondering if its the same story at your guys' schools?

It goes either way at my school. Alot of our players arn't very atheletic and get no respect while others get alot. I have gotten alot of respect for golf because I was supposed to play linebacker for my hs, while my friend gets none because he is a little skinny kid who's other option was being a scrub on the xc team. Just get them out there and show them how hard it is.

At my high school the football team is the pride and joy. They started the year ranked 9th in the nation!!!! yeh its sweet. Theyve been offered to be flown to florida by ESPN for big made for tv high school tourneys and such. they get the new nike jerseys and revolution helmets. the football team is even getting a new nexturf field...the golf team gets nuthin but shirts which are crappy(We as a team head over to polo and get ourselves nice matching ones) and 1 prov1 per match(woohoo!?!?!?) Our golf team has actually been the best team in school over the last 8 years winning the league title each of the 8 years and placing in Districts which is as far as team goes in PA. If you won something or accomplished anything at my school they do recognize you. My school is very big on athletics each graduation class is 750+ so we always have strong football teams and such. this past year was the last dominant season for the golf team. we are losing4 seniors 2 are playing at the college level. the girl on our team has a full ride to Arizona. Me and my buddy are left to hold up the fort. Our coach doesnt really care he just does it for the extra 5K he gets. he wont know what hits him when i graduate in 07' he will have no talent left. o well......... But to answer the question at hand yes we do get respect but in my school football is king and everyone knows it soo we understand that they get first dibs...its just the way of life.

We won our district golf championship and they didnt even take us away in 2004 for the state championships, but our football team (this is aussie rules football) went away without even winning the district.

I get respect for my basketball because i led that team to the state championships last year but i get none for golf.

I graduated from HS in 2004. Our school was very non-athletic. My freshman and sophomore years the golf team got no respect at all. We were flat out terrible. During my junior year we finished second in our conference and that kind of turned some heads amongst the other teams. It was kind of a "where in the hell did they come from" attitude. The next season people were still talking about how suprised they were at our performance the previous year. A lot of my friends in high school laughed at me for playing golf, but slowly they realized how important it was to me and they began to respect that. I actually got a few of them to take up golf. I became known as the "Albino Tiger Woods" and "Golf Kid" in high school.

I have found it to vary greatly. Some people will congradulate you on acheivements and a lot of people are impressed when I tell them I play off 2 but others will be oblivous to it and some even take the opportunity to mock the sport which I find most displeasing.

At my school golf is actually one of the more serious sports (mostly around the people that are involved with the teams: coaches, parents, players, teaching pros)

With golf, we're not going to have the state send offs or the pep rally's but that's OK because you can't play FOOTBALL until your 100!!! :cheesy: (that's cider in those cups...)

Yea rugby is way better in our school. In our school the rugby team lost 40 odd 14 and they got applauded in assembly like WTF but anyway. Our golf team got to the quater-finals of the schools matchplay nothing amazing but it was good enough for us. We don't get metioned and people don't think highly of golf and say that it is an old mans sport but i would say that they are as far away as you can get from the truth.
