TP Mills info please

how do they feel??

I need some feedback form all the TP Mils owners out there. I have a Cameron Studio Style NPII right now, and I like it but I really like the look of the Mills Classic. Just wanted to see if anyone had played with both and could compare the feel. I love the soft feeling of the insert putter, but I'm not in love with the results from the SS.

So I am hoping that classic will feel as good as it loks. Any insight will be helpful.

Freemahc - First of all - Welcome to the Posting side of Golfwrx and away from the lurking side.

 

I will try and answer your question as honestly as I can, although I have never played with one of the Studio Style Putters - I have played with a vast majority of putters over the years. In recent years, my putters have gone through the following stages as my gamers:

 

First of all going back to the Spring of 2004 I started off with a Scotty Cameron Santa Fe TeI3, now, I loved the look of this putter, the feel was about as pure as I have ever gotten out of any putter, the fact was I tend to get lazy with my equiptment and I found the maintenance of the TeI3 to be more of a hassle than anything to use as a gamer and to keep in mint condition.

 

That spring, Scotty Cameron released the Studio Stainless line in a Newport Beach 1.5 design... this was the perfect head shape for me plus the bonus of the sound slot, to this day - one of my favorite putters that I have ever used. I left that in the bag from about May of 2004 - November 2004, but there was something about the putter that I was never able to get complete confidence over - it had a beautiful shape, but I personally need a little bit more offset in my putters.

 

This is when I started looking around for my next wand. I had just moved from RI to FL for the winter and part of me wanted to get something special to remember my FL Experience, or lack there of. Flash back to October 2004 and I comissioned David Mills to build me a custom hand made prototype that would not only fit my eye, but also fit my stroke. We decided on an anser style shape, but I need a full shaft of offset of my putter, but I am not a huge fan of Plumbers necks. This is where David and I got creative and almost created a Goose-Neck type design to keep with the astetics of the putter, but to also keep the putter where I needed it to play.

 

A matter of a few weeks go by, and David shoots me an email, my putter is done - once the putter showed up, it was perfect. Now from a looks standpoint I loved it - from a feel standpoint is where I was flat out blown away. This putter was the finest feeling instrument that I had ever used - it was a little firmer than my TeI3 design, but it also had a nice soft feel to it... kind of the best of both worlds. David is an exceptional talent in Putter Making and his work is that of a True Artist. If you are looking for a new putter for 2006, I suggest a Mills Design - you won't regret it!

any significant difference between the SS and the Carbon feel wise?

It sounds like David will be swamped for the next little while on custom putters, but that should be no problem penguin.

it is not a problem to do that neck, at all.

there isn't a "sifnificant" difference in feel, but there is a more muted feel with the stainless.

 

one way to combat that is to add a pencil shaft to the putter. The pencil shaft will create some tip flex and give greater feedback to you.
