Great clubs.....Only wish they had kept the old grind from the SS models.

I have a set of the forged SS and from what a local club builder said they are some of the softest to bend....he only uses one hand to adjust them. I would still be using them but got the mp32 and have had a fondness for them. Great clubs, easy to hit long irons. Had they been stamped Titleist they would have sold like mad. The forged CB felt a little more clicky than the SS when i hit them side by side. Just slightly firmer feel.

The CBs were a cosmetic improvement over the SS with a more traditional sole grind, slightly thinner top line, slight change in the weight cavity. They also added a premium shaft and grip and the actual length (the SSs were all 1/4 inch short). 2 iron through 5 iron were beautiful looking better at address than the SSs. But when you got to the 6-P they applied some strange reverse offset/grind that really detracted from the looks at address. In years past japanese forgings had this odd reverse offset philosophy. Bridgestone was famous for long irons with no offset and scoring irons with so much offset it made a eye2 look absolutely traditional. The net effect was anyone that owned a set of SSs was immediately put off by the offset look. Don't bother to look at Cobra's web site for the offsets---they responded to the questions by changing the numbers. The site now claims the CBs have less offset throughout the set than Titleists 670 and 680 irons. Put a set of any of those, the CBs, and the SSs beside each other and you will see what I am talking about.

Now for the how did they feel with all these "improvements"---not nearly as soft as the SSs. They also weren't nearly as forgiving in all types of lies as the "skid sole" was. Something happened when they changed the weight pad configuration, added the sensicore shafts (sometimes that is for a reason like the raw forgings are rockwelling harder than expected), and added a more tradtional sole grind. In my opinion although fairly close in overall apppearance they made enough changes to make it not as good an iron as the SSs were. After I played with my set for a few weeks I had to beg everyone I knew to dig me up another set of SSs. They had to search high and low for a 2 iron but finally did it. I will never give up those irons. If you have never had a set of SSs you will probably be pretty happy with the CBs except for the offset in the scoring irons which I didn't care for.

Very nice review Sandy. I was hoping you would chime in here. I only demoed the 4 iron and thought it felt great. Real stron g look and feel. Obviously impossible to have an SS and CB next to each other to compare.

Here is some SS pics...

Anyone play these? My brother is thinking of getting them so I demo'd them today and I am impressed. Soft, forgiving, and looks great. Just wondering if many of you play them?

I hit them today along with the Mizzy 60's and 32's, I liked the way they felt. They let you know when you hit it right and when you didn't. I personally am going to get the 60's I just liked the way they felt in my hands better.
