THE REVIEW! Comparison with X-18 & Ignite /W PICS!
Ya well my coach called me up and said that i can come over and test out his new titleist driver. I dunno about you guys but I heard somewhere that they haven't confirmed the release of the 905R driver in the states yet, but if it's releasing here then it's releasing there. Anyways, I'm going over there tomorrow to test it out in the range, and maybe even be able to borrow it for the weekend! It's apprently a prototype with a 757 speeder in stiff. I'll post all the necessary pics and hardcore review. I just bought an x-18 driver (x460 Japan spec) I can maybe have a comparison review~

Just letting the world know my excitment on the eve of testing~

Last I heard was March 1st as well. They have lowered the price on the 905T and the 905S last week because of this. So I think it is going to be so, they are also going to discontinue the 905S after the release of the 905R from what I have heard through our rep and others........

I heard it was going to be the other way around. They were going to discontinue the 905T and only have the R and the S.

Sorry guys, I've been really busy with work and golf during the weekend couldn't go to my coach to test drive. However I did test out the new tri-ball putter, it's already out in pan west. Deadly accurate within 5 feet. John Daly needs this! Anyways, My x-18 driver is hitting at least 300yards now, so i'm not too tempted to switch. I am heading over to my coach on wednesday...So sorry about the hype, will post up everything including pic by thursday! Oh and sorry i cannot tell u which range or coach, cause he told me to be all hush hush about it...

Ok everyone I LIED! I went today! DRUM ROLL PLZ.

Firstly I have like 7 pics, with side to side comparison with an 9 deg x-18 driver with GD-JV-stiff, 10.5 deg Ignite with diaman 83-s. The 905R that was at hand was 9.5 deg with a titleist speeder S-shaft like the ones u see on retail with the 905T head.

Secondly, I don't have a phone to pc connection at home, so i'll post the pics tomorrow.

Thirdly, I hit 200 balls with the drivers, 70% 905T, 20% x-18, 10% Ignite.

Now the Review!

1) Asthetics: Looks like a bigger 905T with a slightly more elongated back (higher MOI I guess) It looks like it's squashed down like the nike SQ, but not as tapered towards the back, The face of the 905R looks like the 905T but a bit broader. Actually if u ask me the face is really very shallow, even shallower than the ignite! I was hitting the balls with a 6.5cm rubber tee and I was still able to catch some balls on the top of the driver! Anyways as with all titleist the head cover looks nice, driver sits nice and square, the shaft looks good and thus the whole thing inspires confidence and make u feel like u gonna hit a bomb!

2) Sound: Sounds like a twack that comes from when your breaking wooden boards with a sledge hammer (or a karate chop), True to the sound of titleist drivers but a little muted I thought

3) Ball flight: nice medium trajectory, doesn't create that much spin....Mind you my swing speed is 115-125 mph, and it was just right, lower swing speeds will definately need higher loft and softer shaft. I felt that the trajectory was a lot lower than my 9 deg x-18. And it was hard to launch in the air, maybe it's cause of the shallow face....

4) Weight: definately heavier than my Ignite setup! I felt that it was also heavier than the 905T's as well. This is one heavy muther...After hitting the 905R, my x-18 felt like a women's driver!

5) Feel: So So...Titleist is known for their "feel" of the ball ya? So what gives? Ball feed back was rather muted...Sounds like the 905T but less "feelings" on the hands...I have to admit, the ignite "Feel" is a lot worse, but the x-18 driver definately wins this one! I couldn't feel the ball compressing on the face of the driver with the 905R... I dunno whats the cause of that...

6) Performance & forgiveness: Let me tell you this, I've read a lot on this site with people raving about this club, how awesome, forgiving and long it is.... THIS CLUB IS NOT FORGIVING!!! Well a little more than the 905T, but nothing close to the ignite or x-18. Titleist is for low handicapers PERIOD. If you think that the 460cc head is titleist venture into the mid, high handicaper market, you are wrong! On miss hits this thing will send your ball in a massive hook/slice, more hooks actually, even my coach commented. The sweetspot on this is very low due to the shallow face, so people using other driver will need to adjust. I felt the distance was comparable to the Nike Iginite, but not as long as my x-18 driver (maybe cause of the COR dif). The actually distance I dunno, it just "feels" that way... In terms of workability, This club is about the same as the ignite, but then again I still don't understand people who would want to work the ball with a driver, doesn't everyone want to drive the ball straight and long? if u wanna work it around a bend or dog leg, then use a 3w or a hybrid. If you wanna hit 300+ stright use a driver and make it forgiving just in case....

I just want to point it out again that this club is not for the majority of the people as every single Titleist heads were saying. This club is just like the 905T but a bit heavier. It is just as unforgiving, and difficult to master. If you didn't like the T then ur not gonna like R either.

But then again, if you liked the T then u gonna LOVE the R for the extra bit of confidence, distance, and forgiveness.

If you just simply loved the T....then just stick to it, or buy urself another one towards the end of the year when they will make it obsolete and ebay will have it for $100 buy it now with free shipping!
