Callaway Tour I

Recommended Posts

Simply put, Callaway Golf engineers have re-invented tour golf ball performance. The Tour i Golf Ball provides the perfect balance of breakthrough distance and control. An innovative 4-piece Inertia Technology utilizes a tungsten-infused outer core to shift weight away from the center of the ball, reducing driver spin for premium distance and straighter shots. The softer core formulation provides unparalleled tour feel and the softer urethane cover generates more short-game spin for precision control and aggressive shot-making. A refined HEX Aerodynamics pattern further increases distance through reduced drag and better stability. Four pieces, two cores, one unbeatable ball.

Back to back test for a number of holes between the Tour I, B300S (2007v), and Pro V1 (2007-8v) and the Tour i hands down won.

It had more distance than either ball off of the driver, it was straighter, felt as soft as the Pro v1, stopped and chipped as well as the Pro v1 (and better than the B330S) and putted almost as well as the Pro V1 (the V1 goes further on putts for the same stroke). It is also more durable than either of the other two balls for a comparable price.

I actually traded all of my new Pro V1's back in and bought 3 boxes of Tour i's after trying a sleeve of them for the test. I will probably buy another box or two of Tour i's before the season is done for next year even though I still have 2 1/2 dozen of the first batch of Tour i's. I am extremely happy and for once I am not looking at trying other balls. :D

I like em'. I was using the Tour ix for the past year, and toward the end of the season I gave these a shot, mostly because I was in a hurry and they gave me the wrong sleeve when I asked for the ix's. Compared to the ix, I find that I spin this ball way more. Where the ix land and stop, I find I can really back these things up. It might be too much on a wet day though, I played in a tourney a couple of weeks ago and it was a bit soggy. I landed an 8 iron about a foot from the hole, and it spun back almost 20 ft. away! That said, I now know what I will be using during the hot, hard and dry days next summer! Feels good around the green. Good with delicate wedge flops and chips as well. Comes off the putter nice and soft. Off the tee, its pretty long. I think I hit the ix farther, but the i's are no slouch!

I look at the two this way. I'm carrying both in the trunk...if i need spin, the i is my ball. If I need distance and less spin around the green, i'll stick with the xi.

I played this ball last week and was really impressed. I usually play the ProV1, but my father-in-law found one of these and gave it to me. It seemed to have more spin than the ProV1 on approach shots and seemed about the same in distance. This ball reminds me of the HX Blue.

Have been experimenting for the last few weeks since the Prov's will be going away. He finds everything and I try them all. Most of them look to be only hit a few times since the course has lots of water and brush!

I'll be playing this ball for a while?

I've been playing these Callaway I's for a while. For mr there is no better ball and I try other balls from time to time. They are without question the stickiest balls on the planet. And that means more greens hit/held. Can't tell you how many times I've hit a mid to long iron to the back of a green-- and these balls just hit, bounce up once and stop. I think I hit 2 or more greens a round just like that. Any other ball, and I mean any other ball would not stick there. Oddly, I don't think I give up much off the tee with these high spinners. Drivers, matched properly with shafts will still spin low with these balls. I am swinging a Callaway Hyper X Tour head, with a Prolaunch Red stiff shaft. Launch monitor numbers show I'm anywhere between 3000 to 1800 <Pro says that low number is almost a knuckleball!>. That compares with old rig <over 5000!!!!!!> Bottom line-- play thes balls, hit more greens, shoot lower scores. Simple!

I scored my first Ace with the Callaway TOURi on August 12, 2009. I guess that says enough about my thoughts on the ball!!

The ball has great spin around the green and I didn't notice any decrease in distance off the tee. The spin is very controllable and accurate. It putts true. I am scoring better than I ever have now that I switched to this ball.

have been playing the ix all season and they are long. using a 909d3 8.5deg w blueboard.
they are firm and clicky off the putter(C+L 350 milled) The ball jumps off face, explains all of the 3 putts this year. used the I last week and it was excellant, ball checked out of the rough and short pitches droppped like a sack of flour>>> It really feels like a ProV1 Gonna try a Yes Dianna with the heaviest weights and see how that feels.. Anyone have thoughts on the Dianna??? :man_in_love:
