Where do you practice putting.....

I use the carpets in my house to practice putting and a portable cup. I have hard wood floors with area rugs in each room. I really like the oriental rug in the hallway. I prefer this over using any pratice putting mat. The putting mat seems to get folds in it or shifts when you step on it. The oriental rug is pretty close to the speed of a green. I even made a small wedge that I can place under the rug to get some break!

I am gettting ready to build an outdoor putting/chipping green (about 15x20) with a chipping area and sand area. But, my winter course seems to work really well!

I was just curious on what others use to practice and their opinions.

Rated top 10 of the top 100 in the country at 100 bucks a round...

They have about a 2,000 sq ft putting green there with about 8 pins. I put there.

They also have a chipping green about 1000 sq ft, two flags, bunkers etc...I chip and hit sand shots there....

Right next to that is the large range....

The course has two 18 hole layouts, the North course, more links style and more differcult and the south course, traditional, alot of water and wetlands.

...my house does not work...all my flooring is 18"x18" tile

Right now the basement carpet gets the most use. It's actually pretty good speed, and rolls true.

Winter I'm in the house putting on any rug I can.

Spring-Fall I'm outside on my mock practice green. It has a crushed stone base, and on top is a 12 by 17 piece of astroturf from Home Depot. It has a regulation cup and flag. In all it cost me about $130 to build. It's not the same surface as those real sythetic greens, but it's close, and it's great for putting and chipping.

In the summer I am out on the putting green at my home club every day. It's about 80ft x 60f and so they are able of placing a lot of pin placements on it. I can spend hours there. Right now - in the depths of winter- I am putting a lot on the hall carpet. It's pretty smooth and has quite a prominant slope from right to left. Do you get such things as nap on carpets?

I practice on my carpet.

I have seen ~4" PVC pipe put into the floor with low carpet. Just an Idea...you could put a hole in your floor and make a plug to put over it whenever. :cheesy:

My living room floor. I bought one of those ball-kicker-back-thingys for $12 bucks and love it. I set up about 12-15 feet away and if I make it the thing pops the ball right back to me. It helped me get over the 3 foot jitter putts too. I practice every night while watching TV and try to make 100 in a row.

I usually just go to the practice green at my course in the summer but in the winter I use a 10 ft. thing that shoots the ball back to you. This summer I really want to make my own green out of wood for chipping and putting that would go in my basement.

Here in Texas, it's easy to practice year-round, but for indoors putting, I use a mat similar to this one in the picture. Except mine has 3 distinct sections with alignment marks for your backswing. Only problem is - it's not perfectly straight, and hard to get straight putts. It seems to "follow" the carpet for breaks and humps/bumps. Ideally - I'd like to get a hard, wide board, and mount the mat to it, for a true, flat surface.

I'm using the Boomerang putting aid. It's a pretty simple system to help you create or refine a straight back and straight through putting stroke. Also helps with lag putts as well.
