Which area are you moving to? There's a good many places to practice at. Riverside that Bend of the River mentioned also has a 9 hole par 3 course, but it wasn't in great shape when I played it last (that's been about 2 years ago). Par Tee Driving range in West Columbia is nice, but no short game area. In Lexington is a new driving range/par 3 called The Caddyshak that I hear is pretty nice. Also Weed Hill Driving Range in Irmo and the Lake Murray golf center. There's another range near downtown that I can't remember the name of. And every course has a driving range and most have a short game area too. Plenty of places to choose from no matter which area of Columbia you're moving to.

Riverside Golf is of Broad River Road (runs parallel to I-20) and is home to probably the best club builder in the state. The turf isn't very good though.

Par Tee in West Columbia is off Charleston Hwy. It is cool because it has a lot of targets to his at (a mini van for instance). It's turf is better than Riverside but still not great.

The Golf Center has the best turf to hit off of IMO out of the driving ranges in the area. It is off hardscrable Road. You might want to google map it.

If you wanted to go to a course to practice....

I have always liked Oak Hills Golf club for thie range but not much of a short game area.

By far the best practice facility in the area (that I have seen) is the University Club as Cobblestone park.....I have never been their to just practice because it is kind of far out (in Bylthewood, exit 27 off I-77) but they have one of the nicest facilities. It is where the USC golf team practices. They are running a special out there right now (trying to draw in new members) $35 for 18 holes (includes unlimited range balls). It is really a high class place tha the Ginn Corp just bought. 27 holes. There is some construction because they are building a new club house. I just don't know what they charge to hit balls.

Definitely play Univ Club, great place.

Also, for fun and inexpensive round, play LINRICK. Holes 14, 15, 16 and 17 are some of the toughest you'll ever encounter!

For Ft jackson you have to be either Active Duty or as a veteran you can get on the waiting list for a MWR mebership, if they still offer that....

I lieved in Columbia for a few years while in the Army.

Do you happen to know what kind of initiation fee they have for members under the age of 35? What about Fort Jackson...I have heard they have pretty nice facilities?

I think you have to be associated somehow with the Army to practice at Fort Jackson. I wish I could practice there because I live right outside the gate off Jackson Blvd

agree with university clubs practice facility is nice, another good one is columbia cc but im guessing you have to be a member there

the golf center has a good range but its relatively short, they also have chipping green with bunker and a putting green, you should check it out and they have a par 3 course

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
