r7 TP or 905R

If you could have the r7 TP for $400 or the 905R for $250, which would you choose. What are the hot shafts right now? I need a new driver to replace the 905T.

You could flip the prices and I'd still pick the 905R. I just haven't ever gotten comfortable with the R7. I have tried a bunch of drivers and still play the 905T-- there's something about the steady consistency of Titleist drivers. They don't surprise me, and that's a good thing. I hit the ball and look up, and the ball is on the trajectory where I expect it to be.

It all depends on what your looking for in a driver. Personally, I think you should go w/ the 905R because you're using the 905T. plus the 905R is 460 cc while the TM is 425. And the price is cheaper, so I say go w/ the 905R

What jw said. I haven't hit the 905R yet but I have the R7TP and I'll take my chances on the 905R and yes, even if you flipped the prices around. JMO.

905R.....no doubt. I'm a TM guy, but am really starting to like Titleist drivers.

Go with the 905R. If you are the type of guy who likes to have the newest clubs should go with 905R anyway. You know TaylorMade is going to come out with a new "R7" model eventually. Just one question...how would you be able to get a 905R for $250?

Everybody I have talked to that has hit it says if you like the T you will LOVE the R!

905R with an Aldila 65 Stiff. Sign me up, if you can get one for $250. You'll love 905R. The T was awesome but this should be even better.

i guess i am leaning towards the 905R. I also tried the v2 in another 905T and i actually like it better but i didnt switch shafts in my personal driver because i am going to get a new one. if anyone uses the v2 75, what is avg. driver distance and what flex do you play?

well, i want the v2 shaft and when i got my 905T, i got the aldila nv65, which i like, but i like the v2 more. so, instead of paying to get a new shaft installed, i might as well pay a little more and get the best new technology.

You could ask for the dollar amounts to be reversed and i would still buy the R.

 

You guys are in for a great treat with the new driver, it is incredible.

If you would like the ability to adjust ballflight overnight, then go with the R7.

 

No other driver allows you to "get rid" of a problem ballflight immediately (as I was able to do when I dumped my hard draw with some weight adjustments). I still plan on working on the problem at the range, but I was able to play the next day with a perfect ballflight that would not have been possible with any other driver. Not to mention the Fuji 757 (the real one in the TP) is a great shaft! I have not hit the Re*Ax, but have heard great things about it.

 

Try one, it WORKS!

I've had the R7 425 TP in the bag for about 3 weeks now and I personally love it. For me it's got nothing to do with the weights, just the fact that I hit it further and more consistently than anything else I tried. Didn't get on with the RE AX shaft but i've sorted that out. Can't speak for the 905R, looking forward to trying it but i'm no rush to change at the moment.

Have to concur with most comments on this post. Wait / go for the 905R. Just to pass time at the local driving range, had a try with the R7 425 (admittedly not the TP version as it hasn't hit UK shores yet) and it didn't come across as delivering anything special. Personally speaking I would say it isn't even as good as the original R7 and doesn't compare favourably with either the 905T or 905S. I wouldn't get embroiled in having a go at TM and their market practices, but even with Titleist releasing the 905R, I doubt if all these upgrades will offer significant improvements on current models - my view is the 905 T and S are great drivers. I doubt if adding 25cc or 60cc, or moving a few screws around to wider positions will really make much of a difference - but then again that's a personal view and playability is very much in the eye and hands of the individual club buyer.

Hands down i would go for the 905R even if it was 500. You will love the 905R V2 combo the shaft is unbelievable. ive got mine frequencied to between a 6.0-6.5 on the Rifle Scale. The V2 is a rocket of a shaft. loads really nicely, kicks really hard and smooth. no ballooning, a nice flatter type trajectory. i have the 86g in my 3 wood and am going to get the 76g in my driver just a little stiffer bc its my driver so i will get in in a 6.5 Rifle frequency range.

I am pre-ordered a 8.5* 905R with UST v2 75 S flex. I have tried the 905T several times and I hit the 8.5* a touch higher then my 9.5* 983E. I am so looking forward to getting it.

my ss with a driver is at the 118 avg. i actually dont need a full X.... i liked the flex at the border between the X and the S so i am playing more like a very stiff...Stiff but not an X for say.
