Correct way to load a stand bag?

Asleep

Recommended Posts

We have JHR's example--woods low when stand is open:

post-1089-1117652170.jpg

and easyyy's example--woods high when stand is open:

There are many more examples of clubs loaded both ways, but for brevity's sake let's leave it to the two.

So, which is the proper way and why?

There is no 'proper' way to load your bag persay, but there are definitely more common ways than others. I think that Easyyy's is the most common you will find someone load their bag. Woods and putter towards the top, and then work your way down the set so the wedges are on the bottom. I know that is how I load up my clubs, as well as the majority of the other players that I play with.

Depends on if you ever ride in a cart too.....

If you do and you want your legs of the bag in and up against the cart while the bag is in the bag well, then you should load your bag like JHR. That way, your longer clubs will be in the back portion of your bag and your shorter clubs and putter will be in front while the bag is on the cart. Also, your pockets of your bag will face to the outside and will not be up against the inside of the bag well on the cart.

Clear as mud?

I have to rearrange if I ride. I have my clubs in like easyyy's, but have to switch them around while I ride since I like for my driver and longer clubs to be in the back if my bag is on a cart.

It's common to see woods on top, because when woods are on bottom, the irons' heads can clank against the shafts in the woods and damage those shafts.

I totally agree with TheBUNKY. Woods and putter on the top for walking to avoid irons and wedges banging the shafts. Just the opposite for riding, though sometimes i just leave them the way the are, but they are much more accessible with the woods in the back when riding. I believe i read that JHR had his set up this way for cart golf if i'm not mistaken.

Ogio even has a little diagram on how to load your clubs into their bags with thier Woode top. Putter at the very top, then 4 woods in 4 individual slots on the left hand side, then 3 layers of horizonal pockets to the right of the woods for irons and wedges. It works for me weather walking or riding.

Ah, and maybe some of you have seen the new golf bag with the rotating top. I realize it is not a stand bag, but it is really cool. Check it out at http://www.bagboycompany.com/

I load from the top, drivers, long iron left, short right, wedges putter bottom. But no matter I load it sometimes its a real pain getting the clubs in or out when the stand legs are deployed. Bag is Ping Hoofer.

I saw this bag tonight...it seemed like a pretty good idea for someone that never carries their clubs. It was just like a clothes rack, just spin it until you find what you want :drinks:

i like the woods on top and long irons/hybrids working down to the wedges.

that way the heads don't really ding against each other when i'm walking.

i also try to load the side of the bag closest to my back a bit more than the outside since i don't want the weight of the bag to be pulled away from me...make sense?

also the bag has to be situated on my hips just below my lower back so i can walk comfortably with as little strain as possible.

the putter is on the top closest to my back to prevent from dingage.

Just to mix things up a bit, what about those using an Ogio bag where the woods are located on the left side? :drinks:

That was what i was thinking, my Callaway bag has the wood slots on the side, i say, to each his own, its the you say tomatoe, i say tomaato thing, i just like them so the longer clubs are not in my way when i put my bag in the cart. Just a personal prefference.

I've found that it really doesn't matter how load your bag. The main thing is to have head covers with long sleeves to protect your graphite shafts on your driver and fairway woods.

I personally have 2 bags one for walking the other for riding. It does become a pain transfering clubs, but fortunately for me i ride very little.

I do like the look of the bag with the woods on the side. I would prefer to spend money on clubs rather than bags but I may have to make an exception here.
