Jeans on the Golf Course - Yay or Nay?

I usually wear BIKE coaches shorts on the course. It's much classier than denim.

Never would I wear jeans on the course. I wear cargo shorts all the time in the summer but always with a collared shirt. Most of the courses I play won't let you on with jeans. When its cold or rainy I just throw on my rain suit.

Jeans have never had a place on the golf course or in the club house and dining area. Are you here to work or show up with golf attire and play golf. Jeans look very very sloppy and shows the respect you have for the game which is not much along with no doubt a couple beers in your bag. Clean up your act and take time to look at the earlier pictures of real gentlemen & lady golfers.

I play at public courses and it's rare for me to see anyone in jeans. In eighty degree weather there will be exactly two people at the course wearing long pants, the club pro and me.

I have no trouble being an elitist snob, but the way someone is dressed would rank behind golf etiquette, playing by the rules and playing expeditiously in my desire to play with someone. I've seen quite a few well dressed gents in my time that failed in all three facets and t-shirted kids that passed all three in flying colors.

Personally, I don't or wont' wear jeans playing golf; however, I paly a sweet Jeff Brauer trak out in North TX and lots of guys wear jeans, they even allow t-shirts...still have fun and play with "those guys who do" and have a great time.

As long as play is decent pace and nice course, who cares. Are jeans any better or worse than loudmouth pants? It's fun when get paired with girls in Daisy Dukes.

I wear jeans or jeans shorts and a nice collared shirt. I always wear clean clothes not like some of the guys with dirty khakis. Some of you guys are a bunch of snobs. You are the ones who give golf a bad name among none golfers. Many people consider golf an elitist game. Dress codes just add to this. I will never have to worry about dress codes, because I can not afford courses that have them.

In Texas, I will never wear jeans to golf - either khakis or khaki cargo shorts. However, when I go to the North woods to visit my mom and stepdad, I will wear jeans there just because it's what everyone wears (but still a polo, of course).

It really depends on the location and the atmosphere/environment.

Jeans on Golf Course = d@uch3. Might as well wear cut-off shirts while your at it right? Why not just also wear sandals with socks, cut-off shirt, straw hat, jeans and garden gloves too!

How many of you have had discussions with your non playing friends about whether golf is truly a sport or not? I seem to have this discussion once a month. Its pretty hard to convince people its a sport if your out there in Jeans which has to be the least athletic material known to man (except if you ride horses or bulls but even then you probably have leather chaps on!).

I think its ridiculous to wear jeans while playing golf. Someone commented about in Texas they were Jeans??? I live in Northern California and in the height of summer it hits 115* numerous times. Most of the summer is 105+. Jeans? Are you fricken kidding me? I find cargo or khaki shorts hot enough. Everything I have it some sort of "wicking" material. Anything that breaths. Jeans? What a joke.

I'm thinking of going to my home course today for a quick 9 after work, in my jeans. Not because they are comfortable, and not because I feel the need to make some sort of statement, and most certainly not because I do not respect the game of golf, but simply because that is what I happen to be wearing at work today, and I'm not going to drive across town to change clothes before I go. And, I'm in the armpit of the U.S. down on the Texas gulf coast.

I must admit though that the straw hat is still at walmart where I did not buy it, the garden gloves are in the garage, and the sleeveless t-shirt is in the dirty laundry basket because I wore it while I ran the other day.

Ditto. The only denim I'll ever wear is usually denim shorts at those courses where the dress code does not prohibit it. None of my pairs of jeans are really comfortable enough to wear for either 9 or 18 holes.

We are a semi private course. MOST PLAY IS PUBLIC and we wont let you play if you show up in any form of denim or collarless shirt.
