Guys Switching Equipment/New Contracts

Recommended Posts

2008 Offseason Edition
Well, it is about that time of year. Old contracts running out, players with a running out contract from company X with a bag full of company Y testing one day only to have a split set of irons the next day from companies Z and A. IMO, this is the best part of the offseason.

We already had a warm up with Padraig for the last number of weeks only to have him stay with Wilson. So -- anyone have any scoop? Expiring contracts? New destination points? Conspiracy theories? Stories of sitings of player B at [insert Carlsbad based company here] -- complete with subsequent argument on which company it was -- only to find out the guy was playing an event the same day half way across the earth? Clearly made up stories?

We are looking for all of it.

If he is going to Mizuno he will have to take giant pay cut.. They will never pay him what Titleist does nor give him the TLC.... But maybe a switch from Scotty putters to Bettanardi would help.. :black eye:

Well, he didn't say he was going to Miz. Just that he was leaving Titleist. :)

Cleveland starting to slip??????? Are you kidding.

Cleveland's recent product lines have been top notch in my opinion. I think it would be cool to see some higher profile players wear the hat though this year. Maybe even bring back Toms! (Memories of him with Cleveland winning that PGA Championship just got me excited)

saw today that Daniel Chopra was listed as part of Taylormade Staff on their website, said he uses their staff bag and driver???.....also i saw some other unusual names under their staff players on tour....it says Brandt Snedeker is a staff player, that uses only woods and Staff bag....not sure what that is about?

Yes they are slipping. They have Boo, Woody and Vijay as there big PGA Tour promoters. Streelman, Kelly, Flesch, Durant, Lowery don't exactly get the exposure and they are their next guys in line before the first 3 I mentioned. I hope that the SRI buyout revives them. The CG Red and CG Gold were terrible irons compared to their old offerings like the TA3, TA2, CG4 and CG2. They need their Player Development scout to get some new staffers.

Woah, that logic made me shiver a bit. Streelman had quite a showing at the Deutsche Bank and an impressive (rookie?) season. Flesch won last year at Turning Stone, and Lowery won this year at the AT&T Pebble Beach. Kelly and Durant have made some decent showings as well. In my opinion, the CG Reds are actually underrated irons by the way, as are the CG Golds. But to refer players like Lowery as "low exposure" players is absurd.

Also, how could I forget Ken Duke. His previous showings have been very impressive, and I think they earned him a spot in the Masters next year.

Don't get me wrong I like Cleveland products and supported them up until the most recent lines. Um but I'm pretty sure that names like David Toms, Kevin Stadler and Vaughn Taylor got a little more exposure than guys like Steve Lowery. It's nothing against him as a player I'm just saying he like the others I mentioned aren't some of the more recognizable names. They need to ween out the lower tier players and get more high profile players, like Callaway did. They cut their staff in half basiccally, when they signed Phil. Then they got Ernie. Now they are back in the spotlight, for awhile there they weren't. Because they are back in the spotlight people are actually giving their other offerings a look, such as the golf ball, wedges etc. When Callaway had the C4 and the original Fusion they weren't exactly getting tons of drivers in play, let alone the Rule 35/CTU Ball wasn't getting played much either. Sign a couple high profile guys, get their input and boom now they have top level drivers and a competitive ball.

Hensby already using Callaway ball so him going full line could be right. I have heard Appleby is leaving Bridgestone don't know where to although Srixon would not surprise.

Scott leaving Titleist i don't think so.

I know Mark talked to Callaway and Bridgestone couple years ago and was thinking of the switch but stayed with Ping. Wanted to keep playing the OLD proV but they wouldn't produce the old ball for him anymore so he switched to callaway ball/glove. And earlier this year was playing x-forged long irons. So wouldn't be surprised if he switched....

Chopra....LMFAO how TaylorMade lists him as one of their pros when he bags only a TM driver... Chopra sports a ping visor & bag...plus the Ping site lists Chopra's bag as follows: Rapture V2 3-wood, S57 irons, two Tour-W wedges, and an Anser2 putter with special tungsten weighting...

btw...Ping signed Michael Thompson ...he's an all-america from Alabama who recently turned pro & brings a stellar amateur record...

Every year there's talk of PGA Tour guys changing equipment companies and each year I'm left scratching my head and wondering why more guys aren't doing deals with companies like Mizuno. It seems to me that Mizuno is very happy to do a 8 to 10 club (including bag and headcovers) deal with guys. That leave a player open to put in which ever woods/wedges/putter they want. I thought that would be a great solution for most players. But I guess the money for a full bag deal is hard to ignore.

Part of me dreams of Scott being with Mizuno but in reality I could see Scott going to TaylorMade. I would guess he'd continue using a Titleist ball, glove and Cameron putter.

TM always includes players who may or may not use many TM Clubs, they are not all actually "Staff Players." Chopra was using only the driver. Snedeker was using r7 TP Irons and fairway woods.

I hope he stays or if he does go then Mizuno I really like Titleist and I really like Adam. I really dont like how TM just buys all the players.

You mean like Titleist does?
