any wrx'ers want to join me?
I'll be in Vegas for a few days and could not resist making the pilgrimage to Wolf Creek on Thur 11/13/08 at 7am. Have to play early (as single) so I can get back while the wife is just getting up for the day. Would really love to have company. If you've played it before, I will certainly need to rely on your expertise  . Will start out playing the blues (6400yds), but may have to retreat to the whites on the back 9 if it beats me up too much :black eye: .

I rented a car, so if you need a ride, would be glad to accomodate. I'll be coming from the Strip.

If the wife's in a good mood, I may try to play somewhere closer to the Strip on Fri morning, too. Contemplating Rhodes Ranch (only $85 at dawn) or Boulder Creek ($120 for visitors, gulp!). Join me either day!

thx for the tip re: concierge. Will definitely check it out.

As for Wolf Creek, I'm just hoping I can somehow find the right line to aim my tee shots. I may give myself some mulligans to get the right line on some of those questionable holes. Nothing hurts my fragile ego more than to hit a good shot while aiming at the wrong spot.

Thx to SemperFi91 for the stunning fotos of the Wolf. I was drooling so much over those pictures that I HAD to make the effort to play there.

Read the yardage book before any tee shot, and notice all the balls buried in the sides of the hills. You will wonder how some got there. I parred the first 3 holes, then got my Word not allowed handed to me the rest of the round. My wife birdied #10.

Take lots of balls and enjoy the ride. Some of the tee boxes are hard to find, watch for the markers on the cart path and be prepared for some good hikes to the tee boxes.

You are going to love it! Other than the first par-3 which is an absolute blind up-hill prayer of a tee shot, the course is one of the most visually stunning desert courses I've played. It would be helpful if you had someone playing with you with a little "local" knowledge, but it isn't mandatory. Don't be afraid to play a longer set of tees, the ball carries well in the desert air.

Played it in late September...same thing...rented a car and made the trek...I was glad I made the effort...great course but I would love to play it again now that I have seen the holes...if you have a sky caddie it will make it a ton easier!!

Have fun...it is definitely worth it!

I didn't think I could 'out-do' the fotos posted by SemperFi91, so I didn't even try:

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;hl=wolf+creek

If I were to describe Wolf Creek in 2 words, it would be 'Majestic' and 'Manicured.' I played w/ 2 seniors who played from the whites while I played from the blues at 7am, cloudless skies, and get this... no wind! Fairways were lush, traps were soft w/ the rare stone here and there. I didn't have trouble splashing balls out of greenside bunkers, nor hitting full shots out of fairway bunkers.

I had so much fun watching my tee balls soar into the distance and dropping off a cliff. At times it was hard to fall your ball all the way to touchdown, but, man was it fun. Almost every tee shot is downhill. I played very conservatively so I lost only 1 ball. The only thing I didn't anticipate was the long walks up to the blue and black tee boxes. 1/3 of the holes are roped off so you have to stay on the cart path. So be prepared to walk when you're here.

The vistas are indescribable. It's like someone dropped lush, green carpets over the stark, Grand Canyon-esque back drop. The holes may be criticized for being tricked out, but the starter gives you an excellent yardage book w/ carry distances and markers. The only thing you have to account for is the extreme elevation changes.

I will definitely make this course a 'must play' everytime I come to Vegas, despite the long (but very easy) drive.

Lastly, staff was perfect.
