I was apprehensive at first, but decided to take the plunge and pick up the 39* version at Golfsmith after reading about the versatility of this club.

It sets up unlike anything I have in my bag. As best as I can describe it, it looks like a combination of an iron wood and a chipper. The length of the shaft is only slightly longer than my Cameron Studio Style Newport and it sits very upright - which is a good thing considering I'm well over 6 feet in height. A white line on the bottom groove of the face forms a "T" with a thicker line on the flange of the club providing a very effective alignment aid. The swing weight is very heavy; I read somewhere it weights out at E2 and that feels about right. As with the CG14 wedges, you cannot see the yellow gel back insert at address. It also features the zip grooves.

It is winter here in Chicago so I won't be able to do an on-course review until next year. But, I plan on taking it to some indoor and outdoor heated ranges to see what it can do on chip, pitch, and approach shots and will report back. Hopefully someone in a warm weather state can post a review in the meantime. I am very anxious to hear how this club performs out of the rough.

It has been a while since any manufacturer has come up with an entirely new equipment category. But, if this performs as advertised then I believe other OEM's will follow Cleveland's lead and develop their own short game hybrids.

Well done for Cleveland for coming out with something new.

First saw it in a mag and though, man what a ugly club. For some reason though I started to wonder about this club and thought I should at least give it a go.

Anyway I have had it in the bag for a couple of months now and love it, you can hit so many different types of shot with it and it is a fun club to use.

You should at least give this club a try!.

I gave it 4 out of 5 as it is still one hell of an ugly club but it does get the job done and helps me shoot lower scores

Driver = Callaway Smoke-Ai Max-D

Irons = 4-PW Miura KM 700

So did you replace your GW with the Niblick? I think it is a good idea, but then I have to lose a club.

GW hardly ever got used during a usual round for me, amybe once if it was lucky so thought I would replace it just to try the Niblick. The Niblick certainly gets a lot more use than the old GW, most shots around the greens, out of the rough etc etc

I have the 42 degree and the 37 degree. I absolutely love them. I have never had approach to the greens like this since I have been golfing. The 42 degree I use 100 to 110 yards in. The 37 degree 110 to 130. You can have dead aim with these. Make them stop on a dime and get a little bit of spin with them. I highy recommend them.

Had one and played with if for a few months but ended up putting my gap wedge back in.

I found it made me lazy with my other wedges - it was fine when I could hit a bump and run or when I was far enough back (over 50-60 yrds) to be able to fly one in, but anything closer that required a bit of height meant I had to go back to my wedges which I had become rusty with. Having said that it was (for a while) my go to club for 90 - 75 yards in.

Also I found it hard to judge distance on chips - I was either too long or too short - so it ended up becoming a pitching club rather than the all round short game club i think it was designed for.

I still like the concept and if I could carry 15 clubs (or change my wedge set up from 50, 54, 58 to something like 52, 58) then I would be tempted top put it back in.

However in the months that the niblick has been relegated to the spare room my wedge game / short game in general has improved.
