Speed Stik

anyone tried it? how accurate is it?
hi all, just have a question about the Speed Stik,

this seems really cool, to measure the SS instantly,

i tried it today, and my SS comes out to be in 115 to just over 120 mph..

sounds strange, cuz last summer, when i was at teh titleist fitting centre, my ss came out to be around 110-113,

and just don't see how it just increased...

does anyone find this tool accurate?

share some thoughts, that'd be awesome!!!

thanks!

It's a good product, although the speed guage can be +/- 5-6 mph.

I was at an indoor simulator and swing speed was measured at 115 mph on three straight swings. Pulled out the speed stick and swung three times and it registered 114, 116, 117. Pretty accurate for me. Never thought about trying to swing the speed stick over the simulators sensors, don't know if that would work or not.

I just bought one off of eBay and was actually hoping I would lose the auction. It just seems stupid to spend $80 or so on what seems like a broom handle. I am sure I could get something very similar at Home Depot for $4.

So I am glad to see some of you speaking positively about it. My flexibility is pretty poor and I am prone to back injuries and sore muscles. With luck this will reduce those.

Also, I was a bit upset that the seller didn't have the training DVD, but one quick e-mail to the company was all it took for them to promise to send me one free of charge.

I have had the red speed stik since last May. I really don't know if the thing actually works or not. I try to use it before I go to the course everyday. When I went on the launch monitor my swing speed ranged from 105-108mph. On the speed stik gauge I can get it up to 120. I know there is no way in hell I can swing that fast so I dunno. As far as a training aid....hmmmm.....guess I would have to say I'm on the fence. If I had to do it over again I would have bought a weighted driver. I think this would be a much better training aid seeing it is actually shaped like a real club. Holding on to something like a broom and swinging it just doesn't seem to be having the desired effects.

i have been using one recently and the only usefulness we have found is competing to see who has the fastest swing speed. First off the grip is like a baseball bat, dont know if i should grip it like a bat or a club. Second, i think its too long. I dont see how this can be like a club, bigger grip, fat shaft that doesnt flex, and no head. I dont know if its calibrated to be like a club or not, i know my average is about 110 but i can get it up to 125. Its funny how some guys swing 130 but i still bomb it by them on the fairway.

that's not difficult to explain. if you swing slower but smoother you make better contact with the ball which results in higher BALL SPEED.

if your partner swings faster but makes worse ball contact it is very likely that he has a lower ball speed.

that's a very logical explanation why very fast swingers are not always hitting the ball farther than a person who swings slower but smoother.

Or people inflate their SS on the internet to be cool. I can say very few people I have played with outdrive me consistenly by 7+ yards. My SS is 113 or so.

I've goofed aroun with one at Dick's sporting goods before, and my swing speed was only like 65 mph. I figure I wasn't using it properly, because there's no way my usual carry would be 250 or so with a swing speed that low, right?

I'll still buy one, if I can get a deal. Looks to be a good tool for loosening up, better than my old driver with the weight duct-taped to it!

I think the way to think of the speed gauge is consistent rather than accurate. If it registers 110, that doesn't really mean you're swinging at 110 (although you might be), but if after a month it's registering 115, then you probably have increased your swing speed by about 5mph. It gives you feedback on how you're progressing. It's also a great weight for me, teaches a feeling of the release very nicely.

65mph? Your nickname wouldn't be Big D if that was true. You would only carry the ball about .... actually you wouldn't even get it in the air.

250 carry is probably more like 105-110 mph swing speed I reckon.

The last couple of times I went out last season, I don't think I hit one less than 250. I would say my average for that round was more like 265, and I hit on around 305.

Of course, a better hip rotation and my new MacTec are probably the cause of the added distance! :D

wrong!
