Which Hybrid

my 5 iron is 26* and I am looking for a hybrid to fit between that and the 19* 5 wood. So I was thinking either a 23* or a 24*. Which loft would you pick and which model?

 

for the 23* - I was thinking of either a sonartec md, Adams Idea A2, Callaway Fusion hybrid,

 

for the 24* there is the nike CPR.

 

I heard really good things about the Halo but it only comes in 22 and 25 and 22 is to much of a gap for the 26* 5 iron and the 25* might be too close to the 26* 5 iron

I agree. I have a Cleveland HALO in 22 degree. The thing hits like a baseball bat. I also have the Ping G5 hybrid. Another very solid club. I owned the Callaway Heavenwood at one time and it sounded tinny.

The above is true. The heavenwood is very poor. I traded mine in for a halo, but if you want the consistant gap, the sonartec is also a great club.

Another vote for the HALO, and from personal experience I would expect a 25 degree HALO to go significantly farther than a 26 degree 5 iron (I hit my 19 degree HALO at least 15 yards farther than my 17 degree Big Bertha 2004 2-iron). I also owned and disliked the Cally Heavenwood, while the aesthetics appealed to me the head was very light and I hit way to many pushed shots. Another hybrid you might want to explore if you prefer iron-like hybrids is the Mizuno Fli-Hi II (not the CLK). The Fli-Hi II comes in 18, 21 and 24 degree lofts and Mizuno offers many shaft options, additionally it can be lie adjusted (unlike most OEM hybrids and fairway woods) to fit your swing and preferred shaft length.

I have a 23* heavenwood and love it. I tried the Nike CPR and I hated it. The Nike rep told me to hit it more like an iron. If I wanted a club you hit like an iron I would use an iron.

I'm gonna use my Christmas gift certificates to buy a HALO to replace my 4-iron. I'd let you know how it works out, but I won't be able to play golf again until late march, unless it really warms up here!

I like Cleveland products very much, but I hit both for a demo period & the Heavenwood was way better for my swing. This club is so easy to hit. I think the Halo in steel was the problem for me, maybe a different shaft would have done the trick. The Callaway hybrid seems to take a beating around the forums but I absolutley love mine. Tried Halo, Cobra, and Nickent. The Heavenwood is like pushing a button. Good Luck

I elected to get my Halo in graphite. I generated a bit more speed with it.

It's really too bad that the HALO stock shaft is one of the worst graph shafts ever. It's such a good club and I had to spend 50 bucks for a new hybrid shaft.

I picked up a Nickent 3DX Ironwood 17º w/NV Hybrid and it is a very solid combo. I also had the Rescue Mid TP w/Vista Pro X, pretty solid club but was too upright for me and the Hogan CFT didn't have much feel.

I have the 23* sonartec. In my opinion it will go quite a bit further than the iron you are trying to replace. I ditched both my 3 and 4 iron and only use the MD. It easily goes as far as my 3 iron on full shots. I just choke down when needing to go 4 iron distance.

The CPR's are super easy to hit. The G5 would be my second choice. I still have yet to hit a Halo, but have heard a lot of gereat things about them as well. The new Nickent DC hybrids are outstanding as well.
