I could really see a limited edition run of an updated Eye 2. It has got to be the longest running "popular" club in the history of golf. I played an Eye 2 lob wedge and 1 iron back in the mid 80's, to go along with my butter knife Palmer blades at the time..... I should have been playing a full set of Eye 2s.

My entire adult life I have recommended Ping irons to people who ask me what should they play when they really first start getting into golf, but have never put a full set of their irons in my bag. This may change this fall, I have my eyes on the S57's, they are looking really sweet to me......

Limited edition of their first three iron sets that were forged (which would also be the only low offset iron they have ever produced). Of course have them forged by the messiah Miura and charge accordingly... Or maybe have only a few sets made for the tour by Miura and rest for public consumption to be done by Endo Thailand but still charge like they were done in Japan..... :)

Though you were being very cheeky, my thought was very similar when I saw the title. I'd love to see the Dolphin plant experiment with casting a cavity back out of 8620 or sending for some forged blanks and milling the pocket like the original Anser irons. 50th Anniversary irons would be excellent, as well as a special edition Redwood putter.

Unfortunately, limited edition irons never seem to do well. The MacGregor Centennials, though beautiful, were too pretty to put into play and I still see a lot of Hogan Apex 50 and Mizuno MP-100 sets for sale in local shops.

While I am sure that would be a very sweet set of irons, Ping built thier reputation on casting clubs that are user friendly, and not necessarily "pretty". I am sure that if they do release a 50th anniversary edition it will be an item that follows their tradition of casting 17-4 stainless, with a cavity, some offset, and visual lines that are more functional than artsy. Actually I doubt that Ping could even design a forged muscle back or cavity back head. They never did in the first place---only bought already designed golfcraft heads and machined them...

What would you guys like to see them bring out next year?

Let here some opinions!

I would like them to bring a titanium driver with the old fashioned wood grain paint on the head, ala a persimmon looking driver.

A set of polished eye-2 irons and a nice, well done anser model made of something cool like the old JAS putters or gold plated for thos of you who can afford it.

Is it too much to ask for them to re-issue the original Eye 2 wedges? In beryllium copper? With a choice of grinds?

Don't answer that. I know the answer...

Spoke to a tour rep this summer and he mentioned nothing was in the plans for any anniversary or limited special set.

He went on to say that Mr. Solheim doenst think that way even though the public has been clammering for a eye 2 anniversary set. IMO this would be more than HUGE, make a limited special set of the Eye2 and do it the right way.

A "guyson" streamlined, minimal offset, I5/Eye2+/Eye2/S57/Iwedge all mixed into one Iron would be incredible! :man_in_love:

Anyone that has a "in" at PING start requesting something! You never know what could happen!

2009 will mark the 50th Anniversary of the first PING product.

Its my hope as a loyal PING fan and purchaser over the years that they celebrate this with some special products in next years line.

I reckon that an Anser model will probably be produced but I would love to see a midsized cast cavity back iron that they are famous for also be produced for the anniversary.

What, if anything, would you like to see from them next year?? I am looking forward to reading your thoughts on this.

Wouldnt it be great if one of the Solheims read this and took note!!

Ping has rights to the term "Ping Bling" so I would expect to see 50th Anniversry soft goods.

50th Anniversary Staff Bag is expected.

The new I series iron may be more of a modern day Eye 2+ to seperate the club from the S57 as I10 buyers have shown a strong interest in the S57. I wedge and Tour Wedge are due for an update and should be a modern update of the Eye 2 + for the new I wedge would be nice. Gold could work its way into the color scheme for the new G and I Series.

Expect something in the putter line. Redwood is due for an update.

Not necessarily on a 50th Anniv. note, but for next year, I'd like to see Ping come out with a 64* wedge. It wouldn't sell a lot, but at least they'd have one out there to match Cally and Vokey.

A 50th Anniv. PingMan divot repair tool would be sweet as well. It's hard enough to get them now, so just mass market a 50th version of one.

If the i read the calender correct we are inside a month from 2009. As I recall from an article, Ping intends to release some equipment in honor of their 50th. All I was asking is if anybody has heard what they are going to do. But thanks for the reminder on what year it is....and your insightful, well thought out response.

OK Everyone,

I have merged all of the topics related to Ping 50th Anniversary into this thread. Trust me I am just as excited as everyone else is about the speculation as to what Ping will and what they will not bring to market.

Back to painting the house...
