GOLF MAGAZINE MARCH 2006

PING Tour black nickel beat out wedges from some great manufacturers, namely Taylor Mades RAC black TP, Bridgestone j33 black forged and cleveland cg11. It won "testers top pick" as well as "best value". Nice job ;)

No surprise to me. I played Ping Tour's last year and they are awesome. The low bounce 58 and 60 have a great sole grind.

I love the categories. I must now evaluated "BUZZ" when I buy new clubs. Very meaningful to me on all my wedge shots.

Oh yeah I remember now that was the test that ranked four wedges. What happened to about 20 other wedges like say Titleist for example or any of the top 4 in a Darrell Survey. I see they had the CG-11 and J33 in there. The worst the Pings could have finished is 2nd. They must be one of the few in the U.S. that has a J33 wedge. Virtually any Cleveland wedge is a better example than the CG-11. Very very strange selection with only the TM a serious contender. Certainly tour usage doesn't support this conclusion: ref: Darrell Survey, hardly a blip. While the Ping Tour wedges are very good they aren't even the best wedges Ping offers---those are the i5 wedges, not nearly as traditional looking but they have made many ping fans shelf their eye2 wedges (S, L).

Where the heck was the Spin Milled in that test? And why did they test the CG11 instead of the CG10? And testing only 4 wedges? And why are half the testers 15 HCP or worse? There are just so many things wrong with that test to take it seriously.

Demographics of readers and the advertisers in the magazines produce a bias on there tests.Usually geared toward the mid handicap players who make up the majority and thus spend the most money towards new clubs.

I can guarantee you that none of those wedges is remotely among the top selling wedges at shops to low, mid, or high handicappers. The TM and Ping do OK but certainly not in the ballpark with Titleist/Cleveland as far as numbers (and I don't mean the CG-11). The Bridgestone is almost laughable to include---nobody could find one at 90% of the shops in the U.S. Even Callaway/Nike outsell most of those wedges listed.

There are no Bridgestone clubs at all in Canada. A huge percentage of Canada golfs. And they don't offer even one club in LH. Bridgestone is doing the best it can to make it hard on itself in terms of selling clubs.
