was just seeing what espn had to say about it and rory said saturday night he was thinking of switching irons for the final round. i am curious why someone would want to change irons for the final round when in the lead (ain't broke don't fix it) and what would he switch to? i believe he was using the pro combo os before he went to the nds.

good win. would have liked to see him play better. i thought the second shot of 15 (wood left of trees) was an amazing shot, and just had a bad break. i think he responded really well afterwards on 16.

i know a lot of people bagged on him after the ben crane incident (although it was a bad choice he made, something needed to be done since he had gone through this for three rounds and its not the individual, but the group that gets penalized for slow play) and that he can really hot headed, but i think he did a great job keeping his cool today and am impressed with this change in his personality.

funny i can't stand ben crane after the incident.. lol..

Ben Crane handled the situation like a gentlemen IMO. Golf is a game of etiquette and sportsmanship, what Rory did was just unbelievably rude. Even though he issued a formal apology after the fact, I didn't find it sincere. He was just doing some damage control. Crane took it in stride and admitted he needed to improve his slow play.

Crane's reply is not any more sincere. He and many other players have not done enough to speed up play.

I am not much of a Sabbatini fan but I am not going to fault a guy for taking a chance with an unpopular move to make a much needed point when the polite, gentlemanly route has clearly been ineffective for years.

Ben Crane, Rory Sab --- oil and water. Incidents like theirs last year should be best read about and then forgotten.... be happy for Rory and his win, and dont begrudge him for his follies in the past.

Agreed. He's a great player and deserves the win. (Although I was rooting for Freddy!). Congrats Rory. ;)

I felt like a lot of you who say I can't stand Rory after the Ben Crane incident right after I saw it. But, once I understood the policy the tour uses in fining players for slow play, I have since changed my mind. Sure, people can disagree with how he went about expressing his feelings for playing with Crane, but I'm sure if you stepped back and analyzed the entire story (and think about how much Rory probably had to pay because of the guy in fines) you might change your opinion. I think the only true way to decipher whether he was in the wrong is to hear what other competitors had to say about the incident. From my understanding, he was never lambasted among his peers and was rather backed with responses like "I can understand where he's coming from."

Anyways, Nike is really coming on strong this year. Rory is playing great, Campbell is looking real good, and of course Tiger is Tiger. With the new products this year and a promising start to the year, Nike looks like they could have a HUGE year....

It’s got to be tough keeping your cool when you are getting find like $12,000 for something you did not do. Remember last year USGA rules states that the group would be penalized for slow play even if it is only one players fault. This year the rules changed penalizing the individual.

I am not condoning what he did, but after two rounds with Ben I guess he just lost his S**t.

I was also wondering if Sab. uses the NDS irons...I cannot believe he would use that type of iron!?

It just shows that pros want forgiveness too.He could play or have any club made for him i'm sure but chose to play NDS.I would guess that they had some kind of custom grind and weighted a lot different thatn retail.

I read an article this morning that Sabbatini was having a rough go with his irons (NDS) and decided to go back to his old ones.

TSN article

Now I'm not 100% as to which irons those are but I'm pretty sure that they're still Nike.

Bold move before a final round that you have the lead in. The move just about came up and bit him in the arse.

All in all Rory got the job done! He had a-lot to put up with today, and he got the job done, thats why he's won on tour before.....Ben Crane is a damn good player, slow play is okay, but it's sickening when a player is bone-chilling slow(WE ALL KNOW THAT) The hair on my neck stands straight up thinking about it, hey....even Ben admits that his slow play has to improve....that's all said and done with anyways...lets move on.

Congrats Rory....Scott put up a great fight and Couples blew his chances....Rory can play with any irons...he's just lookin for confidence in an iron

Rory was playing pro combo Tour before the NDS irons...He played the Final round and won with thoe Irons!

Nike is really going to blow up this year...Another win for the SQ MAX!!!

was it the pro combo tour he had before he switched to the nds? see, i thought it was the pro combo os, but wasn't positive. i know he has used both the tour, the os, and the original. i'd becurious what this win does for sales of the nds, which i believe is on its way out the door, and if nike doesn't rethink phasing this line out now because of this win.
