Course reco between Raleigh and Myrtle

We are flying into Raleigh at 10:00Am figure by the time we get our bags, rental car etc, we are losing out on valuable golf time. Any recommendations for course on the way to Myrtle from Raleigh? Figure if we can get on the road and tee off by 1:00 we should make it in before sundown and into Myrtle at a reasonable time. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Tobacco Road. It is a 4 1/2 star course about 1 hour south of Raleigh on Route 1 in Sanford, NC en route to Myrtle. Currently it is around 50 bucks to play. It is a poor man's Pinehurst The conditions are great in season. This time of year I am unsure.

It is a really tough course. It is in Golf Digest 50 toughest in America. Also I see the weather isn't so hot down there right now. I could be setting you guys up for the worst rounds of golf in your lives.

Any of the courses in Southern Pines or Aberdeen can be "on your way" to Myrtle, although the total trip is about 45 minutes to an hour longer going that way. Not that big a deal, and that's definitely where the best courses will be.

If you go the 40 to 95 route through Fayetteville, there's a Davis Love course called Anderson Creek that's not too shabby. King's Grant is also in Fayetteville and would be a fine place to get your feet wet.

Also just off of I-40 on your way out of Raleigh, in Clayton, NC, is the Neuse Golf Club. It's a very nice course and won't take you off the beaten path too much. If you land at 10am you could easily be teeing of at the Neuse by 11:30 and be in Myrtle for dinner.

Thanks guys, also received some great answers from the "South Carolina" section.... I have narrowed it down to Tobacco Road and Anderson Creek. The Neuse isn't a bad idea also..thanks!

You can't go wrong with any of those!!! Just for what it's worth the entire group might be happier with

Anderson Creek. Tobacco Road is a love it or hate it (count me in the love group). But if you have 4 or more players in your group, count on at least half them whining all the way to Myrtle about what a joke the course was.

Anderson Creek is just a phenominal layout, lots of room off the tee on most holes, it's a great 2nd shot golf course, where you really need to be hitting your irons well to score. Conditions and service are usually top notch, although time of year expect some dormant Bermuda grass.

The Neuse is a good choice as well, it may not be as memorable as either of the other two however. But a very strong and fair layout.
