Got a chance to see the clubs and balls Callaway are about to launch. The FT-Hybrid looks sweet, a bit bigger than the Heavenwood but definately a looker. It will retail for £159 graphite and £139 in steel. They are also launching a new Fusion Wide Sole iron. It uses a titanuim body and has a tunite back weight that dramatically lowers the centre of gravity. When they say 'Wide Sole' they aren't half kidding. It's a big mother and to be honest it will have to be good to justify the £999 price tag. They are using the Winn V17 grip as standard if that's any consolation. I didn't get a chance to try these but I did get a try of the new XG putters and the X-Tour wedges. The XG has a nice feel and certainly rolls nice. The looks may take some getting used to but that's just a personal thing. This will RRP at £99. In normal guise the X-Tour wedges aren't overly disimilar to the Forged+. The MD however is incredible. It spins so much. £109 for these in vintage, £99 in chrome. Callaway will also lauch a three piece ball for women called the HX Pearl and will update the HX Tour to inclued the sub-hex design that we currently get on the HX Tour 56.

I was sort of taken suprise by seeing these things so I am afraid I can't provide any pictres. However I hope the information is of use to people.

They also have an all inclusive line of Odyssey putters which will basically reintroduce the 2ball and send over the Tri-Ball which is huge. They may have a putter for everyone at last as they are also launching the Dual Force II putters at the same time.

Lots of new stuff, great for golfers who moonlight as Club Ho's.

isn't the new x-tour wedge a teardrop shape as opposed to the very rounded forged+?

in lefty's ?old? custom sand wedge, a forged+(no lefty retail version), he even said that the grooves made too much spin...wondering if these "mack daddy" grooves are similar.

also, if companys reaches the USGA limits on groove depth, width, etc. how can new ones create more spin? spin milled wedges make sense, but are "mack daddy" grooves similar to spin milleds? or how else could they produce more spin?

The MD grooves are simply a maxed-out box grooved, should produce more spin than the spin-milled wedges, but only because Titleist doesn't max out the grooves on their wedges, few companies do. Also true is the "updated" shape on the X-tour wedges, will resemble more the 588 that Mr. Cleveland designed for Cleveland, than the overly round shaped Forged + wedges. Let's just say that these have a better shot at making my bag than my current Forged + wedges, which I already love! I'll just make sure I hit a couple buckets of range balls to take some of the edge off the grooves before giving my 4-dolla balls something to "smile" about. :) (I will be testing these against the 588 DSG's, and Oil Can Spin Milled--great year for wedges! :fool: )

I'm also looking forward to the replacement for the HX56. That ball was already everything I've ever wanted in a ball, only gripe could be durability--but that's only a minor complaint on the current model when matched to it's performance.

Aside from the reported slight to lefties on the FT-3 hybrid ;) , looks to be another banner year for Callaway! :D

you're thinking exactly like me on the three wedge choices you mentioned and the 56 ball. i've had poor success with hyprid woods ... any take on the ft-3? if the x-tour wedges turn out to be great ... that's gonna be a lot of paintfill to strip :-).

Mike, I'm going to assume that you're not cracking a lefty joke with the ft-3 hybrid--if you are man, not cool. . . just not cool. :D ;)

Honestly, I'd like the chance to hit one. That is of course, if it sets up square--the heavenwood is spec'd to be 2* closed, I was fortunate to get a hold of of a tour release, shimmed square and long!

Agree on the paintfill w/ the X-tour wedge though. I'm grooving the vintage version and will minimally be taking out that big fat X! I love the Cally name and products in general, but I just don't want X marking the spot in my bag while I'm trying to target a different area--you know, somewhere's around the hole. :fool:

Beruo,

Sorry ... I forgot you were a lefty :-(. Callaway should at least offer the reduced numbr of lofts for lefty's in the neutral set-up ... that does suck for you guys.
