USGA Golf Handicapping Software - Help needed

Is there a product for the small(er) golf league?

We have a small (20-30 golfer) neighborhood league (depending on how many sign up this year).

We'd like to get some software to calculate USGA handicaps, and I'm looking for a recommendation. We can form a "League without land" (or whatever the USGA calls it) but I'm trying to find out if we should even try...depending on the cost of software, it may not be cost-effective.

Anyone use handicapping software they like that'll calculate a USGA index with minimal (!) effort, at a reasonable cost?

There are a few systems out there on a Google search, but I've no idea if they're accurate, any good, easy to use, etc. And the USGA doesn't "endorse" any particular product (so they're not really much help).

Ideal would be something online (thin-client) so we could just log-on to use it (but the ones I've seen so far charge each person--it might be cheaper to just buy a software package, and take a laptop to the course.)

Not sure where your club is being set up, but in Southern California you can make an Affliate club (no course affiliation) that qualifies to use the USGA official handicapping system. The SCGA uses a system that is USGA handicapped approved but the club doesn't get software to calculate. Each players index is on the system throughout california on the SCGA website. They have computers at each golf course to enter your score and as a handicap chairman for your club you can have access to your members scores. This is the only way to have an official USGA Index.

I am sure your are has a local USGA affiliate and official handicapping. The cost for membership is $35 in So Cal. so shouldn't be too much in your area.

If you are looking for tournament software that is a totally different story and there are many out there even shareware if you google search it or someone on Golfwrx will definitely have a suggestion.

If you want I can send you a excell file that can calculate according to USGA guidlines a person's index. Just math not complicated. Formula: Rating-Adj. gross score= Differential. Differential/slope*113. 10 best differentials out of 20 latest scores. Add up 10 best x .96. viola your index.
