Courses in Scotland

Hi guys!

In may I will spend 8 days in Scotland in the area surrounding St Andrews together with 3 friends.

So far we have booked tee times at New Course, Jubilee Course, Castle Course and Old Course and I would like to know if you have any suggestions for other courses in the area that you've played and could recommend.

Also if any of you guys would like to meet up for a game of golf or just drinks that would be great!

We are from Sweden and play of handicap 1, 4, 5 and 18 so if you dare!!! ; )

/Anders

Sort of depends on how far you want to go. But using St. Andrews as a home base, I would not miss a round or two at Elie. Similarly, I would make the relatively short drive to North Berwick. Of all the courses we played on our trip to Scotland, North Berwick easily ranked in the Top 3 (along with Old Course and Royal Dornoch).

Have fun.

I too went in May last year - best trip i ever went on. I would recomend you pick up Alan Ferguson's book on golf in Scotland (It is on Amazon), and also check out http://www.golfnookscotland.com/index.html - a great site for courses and lodging information.

In the St Andrew's area we played the old, new and Crail - the balcomie links - very good course - links right on the sea. Very tough front, not so much on the back - great lunches in the clubhouse - very cheap too.

I would second the trip to Carnoustie - it did not disappoint - full of history - and yes, it is that hard.

Scotscraig is good i hear as well.

Hope you have a great time!

Andrew

I went last Sept with the boyz on our annual trip. It was our 10th year so crossed the pond.

Departed Tuesday and arrived Wednesday. Checked into the Old Course hotel (rooms weren't ready but used the spa) and played the old course. We had a bus the entire time so travel was easy. Thursday we drove about 2 hours and played Muirfeild in the morning then North Berwick in the afternoon. Friday played Kingsbarns in the morning and Carnoustie in the afternoon. What did I think? INSANE!!!!! I wouldn't be scared by the drive to play certain courses. It is well worth it.

I support earlier posts for Kingsbarns and Carnoustie (among others). I really loved Kingsbarns. Maybe because I played it well, but I thought overall it was great. We played the week before the Dunhill Cup so we played all the courses at a perfect time. Incredible trip.
