Arizona WRX'ER Roll Call

Recommended Posts

Damnnit, now I am gonna beat myself up over completely forgetting about that tee time at Southern Dunes last time. Now you guys that's played there are gonna get unfair advantage! :russian_roulette: :angry22:

No one to blame but yourself. LOL

Still not to late to book for monday if you need a mental health day at work. you could prob get a replay and get home about the same time you would from work to keep the gf happy. Scratch that I need all the advantage I can get :busted2:

Sorry I am late to this thread...I bet I can get a better rate if you guys want to come to my course, here in Tucson. Btw, I have room for a couple more players tomorrow...

Sorry Tresselfan I have already made the arangments with Southern Dunes, thank you for the offer though, you are more than welcome to join us if you can make it. Though I realize it is a bit of a drive, but a very very good course.

I played four rounds at the Dunes this past weekend. The course is in great shape and the greens were rolling. Also they have the best customer service I have seen, no cart girl on the course so you just call in your drink or food order anywhere on the course and they will run it out to you. Our group had the 1/2 burger in between rounds and I wanted to nap the whole second round.

P.S. If we play from the "tips" tee's this course is a monster. Also my buddies from Colorado say the two fininshing holes are the best they have played... Real tough test to make birdie on 9 and 18 with three presses on you

I am NOT a bomber by any means...(just ask One Putt Blunder)...but I thought this course was fantastic, fair and a good test for sure...I hope they succeed in the "open to the public" sector....nothing in AZ is similar...I honestly couldnt tell I was in the middle of the desert and it felt like I was playing Pacific Dunes in Oregon all over again...(actually...this place beats Pacific Dunes IMO, the first two holes of Pacific are so horribly setup that it ruins the whole round)

Southern Dunes...an oasis in the middle of the desert,......I am certainly curious how this place will play in the heat of summer....I am imagining 60 holes a day in 115 heat...and I cannot wait!

I am not a bomber by any means either, There were a few drives where medicapitain and myself were within a few feet of each other. Our best effort at cart golf :D . I felt very comfortable playing at 7337 yards. Even with the wind blowing as much as it was on monday, there was only a few times when I had to scratch my head and say damn this is a long course. Most noticably on #6 the 245 yard par 3 where I had hit driver into a strong left to right wind and let it carry back to the hole. (one of my career shots btw, stuck it to about 12 feet).

If you can get it to 250 260+ consistantly off the tee the tips is a tough, but very playable challenge. I posted an 84 with my 6.4 handicap and it actually helped my cap with the rating and slope.

I can only imagine how firm and fast it will play this summer.

Starr Pass CC on the west side of Tucson...Playing today, thursday, and friday this week...Let me when you want to play...

John

I played Star Pass once and it's a fantastic course. If I recall, back in the day. the Tucson Open or whatever it was called split the first two days between Star Pass and I think Tucson National. I could make it on a weekend. I am definitely tied up during the week with work constraints.

No you can't.

It doesnt REALLY matter does it?.....unless your 16 and don't wanna play with "grandpa's"

Im 41, 3.2 HDCP, career low 64, lowest in past 12 months 66 (Wildfire FALDO), highest in past 12 months 85 (ASU Karsten-my first GCAT event with some "nerves" freeflowing)

Married (about five rungs up the ladder more than I deserve) no kids, two Golden retrievers, own my own house, have two cars, 9 Drivers, 12 putters, two sets of blades, three golf bags, about five dozen ProV1X on standby, I wear a glove but not to putt, I aim farther right than I should, I miss 5 footers all the time, my bunker play is decent, I prefer to hit fades now, I like using the SC ballmark so I can get a feel for my line while waiting for others to putt, I am left eye dominant.........next question please :friends:

I will be 32 the time of the event. My current index after mondays round is back to a 6.2 I have been hovering between 6.2-6.9 for the last few months. Low round of 2008 was a 73 +2 According to my conversation with my 7 year old nephew last weekend I am too old and should be married with kids by now. :cheesy: My GF got the biggest kick out of that

I am 26.

Never kept an official handicap but I usually claim to be about a 4 but my short game and putting is more like a 12. Lowest round in the past 12 months is 68, highest was 85 at the qualifyer for my company's "Ryder Cup" style inter-department match.

Also within the past 12 months, shanked the ball once on the course (witnessed by One Putt).
