FT-3 and UST Proforce V2

UPDATED with numbers
Just a quick note, I spent yesterday hitting a Callaway FT-3 fitted with a UST Proforce V2 65gram stiff. This is a really nice combo and compares very favorably to the Diamana but with a lower ball flight. The ball flight is boring and the feel is very lively, and not harsh like the older Proforce.

I have been struggling to get some spin on this driver which originally came with a Proforce 65 stiff (older model) so I was reluctant to change to the V2 as the shaft numbers are similar and the results were poor (too say the least), but that is where the comparison ends, the V2 is a much better feeling shaft and you can go after it without having to be concerned about left, which is an issue for me. I also believe that the 335 tip versus the 350 tip has something to do with the less boardy feel.
M
oving from a 9.5 to a 8.5 I had all kinds of spin problems, the older proforce would not get up in the air and the spinrate was 1850 rpm so as you can imagine the balll knuckled over and fell out of the sky.

Shaft numbers, torque, butt stiffness, Mid Stiff, Tip stiff, Tip Parallel, Tip OD
Proforce 65 (S) 3.3 273 7.2 30 4" 350
Proforce V2 65 (S) 3.0 267 7.0 28 4" 335

My gamer driver is a Cleveland Comp 9.5 with a speeder 757 flexed at 260 cpm at 45" and it still launches the ball at about 15°. The spinrate of this is righ at 3000 rpm so the ball flies out but gets no roll.

In comparison my FT-3 is a 8.5° fitted with a V2 stiff flex at 261 cpm at 45". I will take this with me to the Callawy guy on Sturday and get some numbers and will report back after that.

I do not have any spinrate numbers yet, but will be able to provide those on Saturday after I go and get fitted by the Callaway van.

abewley,

I have a B'stone J33 460 10.5 on the way. I just took the plunge and ordered a V2 75 stiff for it last night. I kept getting conflicting reports about how this shaft launches. Some say high, some say mid, some say low. Figured I'd just have to get one for myself to find out. I play Prolaunch and YS-6+ in stiff flex in my other drivers. I see you play the Prolaunch. I'll report back once I've had the new shaft installed and had a chance to hit it in a couple weeks. I plan to get it installed untipped to make sure it doesn't launch too low for me, and 44.5" for control. Hopefully it works. I decided to listen to UST's description of the shaft as a mid/high launch. We'll see if they're right! ;)

I got on the launch monitor the numbers were disappointing.

Callaway 8.5°

Shaft UST V2 65g Stiff

Spin Rate 2000 rpm

Launch Angle 10°

These numbers are up just a little from the UST 65g

Old numbers

Callaway 8.5°

UST 65g Stiff

Spin rate 1900 rpm

Launch angle 9°

I also hit

Callaway 8.5 neutral

Diamana 73 S it's numbers also low but not as low as the V2

Spin rate 2200 rpm

Launch angle 11.5°

Callaway 9.5 neutral

Speeder 652 S

Spin rate 2570

Launch Angle 13.8°

Lastly my gamer for 2005

Cleveland Launcher 460 Comp 9.5°

Speeder 757 S

Spin rate 3100 rpm

Launch Angle 15.4°

You guys can make what you will out of these numbers.

I would be interested in seeing your numbers with an X flex in the V2 65. This may be totally wrong but, I think you have overpowered the s flex and the shaft is flexed back away from the ball at impact and not forward towards the ball as it should be. This may be crazy but that could explain your low launch #'s with the 8.5* heads. At 110 mph you are well into the X range for the 65.

Just a thought. ;)
