Callaway GES club set

Any opinions?
I had a question regarding the Callaway GES club set for women (for those of you unfamiliar with it and who are curious, they can be found here: http://www.callawaygolf.com/en.WOMENS.Wome....WomensGES.html ).

I was wondering if they are as forgiving as Callaway advertises them to be? I am asking because my girlfriend who is very new to golf is intersted in buying a set and start taking lessons. After doing some searching we had the clubs narrowed down to the Callaway GES and the Adams IDEA irons/hybrids for women. I'm basically wondering whether or not these clubs are all they claim to be and if anybody or someone they know has used them, what do they think? The online reviews seem pretty good, but I was just looking for some more feedback before purchasing them.

Any comments or help is appreciate, thanks! ;)

I had to try and answer this. I'm an equipment junkie and read everything I can. In fact I just went through this with a lady friend of mine who just took up golf herself.

As a Cally fan, it hurts me to say this, but the GES set is awful! I don't know what they were thinking. They took fairways and scooped the back from them. While I understand WHY, I don't get the look. That's probably why they didn't sell well. If you are willing to spend the money, choose the 2006 version of the Adams ladies set. I think they are called the Women's Idea a2 OS. Solid set with a lot of offset and loft to help get the ball up. Another excellent set is the Mizuno Tava. You can never go wrong with Mizuno. The heads are bigger and also very easy to get the ball airborne. One more set to try is the Tour Edge Moda. The price is decent and the quality is very good. In any case, graphite shafts are the way to go to help her get around on the ball. ;)

DRIVER:  Callaway Rogue ST 10.5

FAIRWAYS:  Callaway Rogue ST 3, 9, 11 Fairway Woods

HYBRIDS:  Callaway Big Bertha 3 Hybrid, Rogue ST 4 Hybrid

IRONS:  Callaway Rogue ST 4-AW

WEDGES:  Callaway Jaws Raw 50 S Grind, 54 S Grind, 58 Z Grind

PUTTER:  Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas

BACKUPS:  Odyssey Toulon Garage Le Mans Tri-Hot 5K Double Wide, MannKrafted Custom, Slighter Custom

BALL:  Testing

I am in full agreement with the last post. GES came out at a ridiculous price and looked like garden tools. Canadian retailers were giving them away by the end of it. ;)

The Adams a2OS, Tour Edge Moda and Mizuno Tava are all great picks. Some are sold as complete packages, some aren't. I would also recommend the Callaway Big Bertha for 2006.

Thanks to all the posts and suggestions. I'm glad I decided to post on here because the feedback you guys give is great and very accurate. I can see exactly where you are coming from with your comments. The only thing with the suggestions is that the clubs suggested are more than she is looking to spend. Since she is just starting out she was hoping to get an iron set or a 6-pw set for under $200 and thats why the Adams IDEA '05 irons came into play.

Right now the current plan is to get her the Adams IDEA 6-pw set and then something like a 17*-22* hybrid that she can learn to hit off the tee box. What do you guys think of this set up? Thanks again! ;)

Ohhhh..! That whole price thing! ;) $200 will be tough to do without going to a clone set of clubs, but I;ll give it a shot.

Let's see...

Here is a link for a BIN price of $199:

http://cgi.ebay.com/LADY-MIZUNO-TAVA-IRONS...1QQcmdZViewItem

Steer clear of the Adams GT3 clubs. Complete junk.

(I'm looking on line at the same time..forgive the pause)

GOT IT! Tour Edge JMAX Bazooka! Extremely easy to hit and for $199. Here is the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-LADY-TOUR-EDGE-JMA...1QQcmdZViewItem

These all function as hybrids because of the wide soles. These are even 2006 models. As for the 2 or 3 iron hybrids, here is a link for the Tour Edge Houdini 5 wood hybrid:

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Tour-Edge-HOUDINI-...-Fairway-Wood-5 Ladies_W0QQitemZ7159311601QQcategoryZ115280QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I couldn't do $200, but $300 will set her up minus a putter. A Houdini is a great choice for a driver. All of these are very light and crazy easy to hit. The driver is like 16 degrees. Insane!

We'll all be here if you need us!

tbowles, you are the man! ;)

Those Tour Edge JMAX Bazooka hyrid - iron combo's look great and are definately in her price range. Also, she doesn't need to buy a hybrid on the side because it comes with the 4 and 5 utility clubs. She can just use these off the tee until she gets better and then after her score drops she can invest in a driver or 3 wood.

Thanks a lot for your help and one last question, will the JMAX Bazooka's be easier or as easy to hit as the Adams IDEA irons? Because the IDEA irons are great game-improvement irons.

Thanks again and I'll let you know how the purchase turns out

My wife began playing a couple years ago & we looked at it. She ended up with Callaway but not the GES. She's a pretty good weekend lady player (probably 28 HC - shoots 105-110) and absolutley loves the game. Most wives b**** when their guys go play, she complains when she can't go. Her set is below & she loves it. With the exception of the driver (used AMEX points) I got everything used for her off callawaypreowned.com once I knew she would stick with it. Once you know she'll stick, get her decent used clubs. I highly recommend the Callaway used site for great deals on certified clubs. The only thing that sucks is you will be forced to put her chick flower headcovers in your trunk. Good Luck

Wifey's used lady set - all shafts ladies Gems flex:

Callaway 454 13*

Callaway Steelhead Plus 4 wood

Callaway Heavenwood Hybrids 3H, 5H, 7H

Callaway Paradym  9*  Kai Li White
Callaway Paradym  15*  Kai Li Red

No problem. I told you, I'm an equipment junkie!

I have tried both. I honestly think the Tour Edge will be easier. The soles are so wide it's nearly impossible to hit them fat and the CG is so far back, it will be easy to get them up without swinging out of her shoes.

Let me know how it turns out. I'd love to hear about it.

Tom ;)

Thanks again for the responces guys. I actually was able to hit the JMAX Bazookas at the range yesterday and they are quite easy to hit, not as easy as my Adam's Idea A1's but that might just be becasue I'm used to them. So, I think my girlfriend will be ordering them soon and i'll keep you guys updated. Thanks again for all the help.
