My son was born a month early, and had to spend a week in the neo natal intensive care. There was a male nurse that had a shaved head, piercings, and a lot of tatoos. He looked like the kind of guy that ate babies rather than care for them. He was one of the best nurses there. I would never get a tatoo, but I couldn't care less about what anybody else does.

Does anyone see the similarities between being judged for your tattoos and being judged for how you choose to dress?
Certainly. I judge people on the quality of the work they have done.

I have tons of respect for someone with a well-designed, well-executed tattoo with exceptional artistic qualities. There are some pretty stunningly talented ink artists out there. I feel the same way about someone with an poignant, meaningful mark for a loved one (even if it's not the highest quality work).

Conversely, I look down a bit on people with a pile of random, low-quality tats that seem to be the product of drunken dares. Butterflies, anyone?

I suppose it's not all that unlike judging someone who puts some thought into what clothing they wear versus someone who just grabs whatever's convenient.

And meanwhile there are folks that judge any and all tattoos and people with tattoos the same. Thus the "dirty looks" mentioned on this thread.

Ironic, no?

I have a word tattooed on the outside of my right ankle. I means a great deal to me because of something my son had gone through.
I show it proudly, and figure that the pain from getting a tattoo is a mere percentile of what he went through, but is a constant reminder of the situation.

It's funny because I played with the owner of an NFL team in a member guest a few years ago and the tattoo struck up a conversation that most likely would have never occurred. And made for a very enjoyable round of golf on top of it.

Yes just one small one

got it in Thailand , its their #1 , but also supposed to be one of the oldest symbols.

I golf at a 100 year old club, very upscale.

I used to think the old guys might notice it and frown on it (its very visible putting)

Surprisingly I have never had anyone at the club even comment about it.

Like it or not there will always be some people who will judge you by your appearance. If you choose to get a tattoo you must be prepared to live with the consequences. Oft times, decisions made in your youth are not the best...many will regret their tattoo later on in life which is why the tattoo removal business is also booming now.

I suggest you give the matter a lot of thought, then pause and give it a second thought before actually doing it. Just because you think your tattoo is cool today, does not mean you will still like it 5 or 10 years down the road. High school cool is not so cool in the Business World.

That is a solid point, and worth reading, IMO. And I do have a tattoo. I love mine, but more than one close friend of mine have some they do wish they had a do-over on. When I got mine, it was very understated in size and location compared to what many of my friends were getting done, FWIW.

I have both arms that are half sleeves. So at the elbow. I don't get to much grog from them but I'm a PGA PGM student so I get lots of the professionals looking at me awkwardly.

Both arms fully sleeved, over both shoulders capped, up one side of my neck and chest pieces, One calf sleeved. Working on more, been at it since I was 18, and I'm 40 now. Nobody says anything to me. In fact, I get more compliments from older women (60's - 70's) than anyone else. My 3 golf buddies are in their late 50's and 60's. They seem to like them.

All mine are colorful and tastefully done…had a couple cover ups from ghetto jobs, but look good now.

You either like them or you don't. I could care less. There's a lot of things people do that I think are stupid, but who am I to judge? I'm inked!

I think almost all tatts are really ugly. And anyone getting all tatted up is a sheep. Talk about a herd of moo cows. You all look the same. Sorry. I have seen the tat thing go from super underground to idiocy. Its idiotic now.

Driving a VW was once considered "underground" or against the grain…but you wouldn't know anything about that now would you?

Don't like them at all.
My first impression of someone with a tatoo will be less than someone without.
I think this is due to the fact that when I was young it was usually dodgy people that had them. Now everyone has them.

The first time I walk into a new clubhouse I always get stares; more than likely from my tattoos. I always make sure to dress nice but after a few trips to what I consider my home course I don't get the stares anymore and now I'm just one of the guys.

I don't have 2 full sleeves but they're on their way. The tribal is on my left arm and the other two are on my right arm. I also have a tattoo in my left rib cage and will be adding one on my right rib cage of my daughters name.
