Do you take your glove off to putt? [POLL]

For those who wear gloves...

Never took my glove off to putt, and don't really understand it, but it seems many do...if you do take your glove off, drop a post here and explain why--is it just "feel" or is it more than that?

I never played with a glove up until the last few years. Having to switch to a glove i went with the thinnest gloves i could find, titleist players glove, but even still it doesnt have the same feel to putt as it does to putt with no glove. i have control and feel that i just wouldnt be able to get with a glove on.

I only wear it when hitting...it's off between shots,

and not used for pitches, chips, or putts.

Wish I could say *why* I do this...but have done it as long as I can remember.

I can't say that it's a *physical* thing with me...more psychological....

Just feels weird to wear a glove on those shots (or between shots)...

but I seriously doubt it effects my touch.

I take my glove of for every shot under 50m.

 

I guess I just like the added feel you get from having both hands touching the club, but I have played those shots with a glove before and there is no difference so its really just a mental thing.

Taking my glove off I feel like I have better sense of the putter head and a smoother stroke.

Always take off my glove - done so the 16 years I've played and it gives me a better feel of the putt I think....but its mostly mental. No need to change though ;)

I'm like a lot of you guys, I take my glove off when I putt and on short pitches and chips. I'm not sure if it actually increases my "touch", but it's become a habit to take my glove off when I get to the green.

I have always taken off my glove when i putt and in the last 6 months i have taken it off from inside 40 yards.

Yeah, the glove comes off! The glove seems to reduce feel when putting the ball. I've tried it a time or two while on the practice green, but it feels so incredibly foreign that I simply couldn't putt more than once or twice and found myself needing to shed glove immediately. I guess the reason behind putting bare hands on the putter grip lies moreso in the fact that I am more of a finesse putter, and rely predominately on touch for a ball to get in the hole.

I always take it off, i say it is feel for me i like the feeling of the putter grip in my bare hand like i am more in tune with the putting stroke. I also hit chips, and sandshots without a glove.

The glove is only on during shots....Hook it onto the bag while walking and take it off when I put it down.

 

I don't even think bout why I do it anymre, I just do.

I only wear a glove on full shots, it seems like I have a better touch without one.

However I do find that I have better touch with my glove removed.

I am a sweater, so I need the glove whenever i can. However, I do take it off for putting. I definitely feel more comfortable without it on while I am putting.

yes. out of habit. always wear the glove for Iron/wood/wedge shots including greenside chips but always take it off when putting.

 

except when it's cold, then i keep it on the whole round

Glove off for putting but on for chipping, pitching and all other shots. No idea why, just doesn't feel right putting with it on.

I dont use a glove any more. I use to and i did take it off to put. My hand kept on getting sweaty with my glove on and i hated it so i just stoped using a glove. I even just put my glove on for when i hit the ball, but still i just couldn't stand it nemore. but yeah no glove and its great. i love the feel and the feedback i get without the glove.

I leave it on. For me the lower hand controls the speed of putts (claw grip) and the upper (gloved) hand just steadies the putter.

 

I sweat a lot as well, so unless there are 6+ gloves in my bag, I'm forcing my hand back into a sticky glove on the next tee if I take it off to putt. No thanks.

Jack Nicklaus used to putt with his glove on. His reason- I didn't want to take it off and put it back on 18 times a round.

 

I take it off for some more delicate chips and most putts. It kind of varies, but I'd say I take it off more often than not.

I have taken my glove off to putt every putt for at least 10 years. I like the feel of the grip in my hands. It doesn't make me putt better. I do it more as a "constant" step.... a putting pre-shot routine.

Comes off to putt, and pretty much every shot inside 70 yds. Touch is greatly improved, can feel the clubhead much better.

 

I don't mind taking it on and off a lot during the round. What else am I going to do while walking to the next tee box or between shots. I usually take it off after a drive when I'm walking to the ball so as not to just have my arm tan and my hand paper white. :drinks:

I take my glove off for all shots with my sand wedge down to the putter. I would love to play ALL shots without a glove and probably could do it, but I get nervous whenever I attempt it... I'm more of a feel player and like just like it without the glove, especially when putting. Plus I hit all shots right handed, but putt left handed and having the glove on the left hand to putt left handed just feels weird...

from my Gap Wedge down to putter I take my glove off.

 

I don't like the feel of the glove but in the summer it gets so hot you kinda need one or two each round.

I dont wear a glove when i putt.. i like the feel of my scotty putter grip, unless its cold like in the 30s-40s and windy then i wear it to keep my hand warm

I am like pretty much everyone on here, I take my glove off between shots, short pitches, anything around the green (bunker shots or chipping), and putting. I feel like I just have more control of the club and gives me better "touch" but I also agree that it could just be a mental thing. Whatever works, in golf as in most any other sport, you have to go with and this just happens to work for me and I feel the most comfortable doing this.

It depends on the gloves for me. If it is cold or raining and I am wearing my rain gloves, then they stay on for the round.

 

If it is a nice day, I will talk off the one glove around the green.

 

I pretty much want the same feel in both hands for putting so that either means both gloves or 0 gloves.
