Regripping a Scotty?

Should i regrip my Scotty?

I'm thinking of regripping My Scotty with a Ping G2 grip, will it change the value of the club.?

i shouldnt think so...on certain models it might.......but if you want to sell it just put a scotty grip back on it ;)

i've just had my scotty shortened and regripped with the red studio design grip. i must admit i was in two minds over whether or not i should give it the chop but then i thought it's mine and i can do what i want with it. all i would say is, make the putter how you want it to be.

First thing that happenes to any putter I own is it get a Lamkin Crossline Soft Cord paddle grip. YOu're the one that has to sink putts with it. WHy putt with something you aren't comfortable with? My newport 2 PP and my SS 1.5 both have been regripped. I also prefer a 340 gram head with a 33" length so I actually will but a 34" scotty and chop her down 1" and regrip. I wouldn't play with a club I have to worry about resale value anyways. Most likely it would be a collector and wouldn't ever hit the course if it were me.

I won't buy a Scotty, or any putter for that matter, unless the grip is original. It is not that I like that style, I enjoy knowing that the flat part of my grip isn't crooked or twisted.

You would be suprised at some factory grip jobs, only the real quality putters like camerons can you be sure of a well aligned grip.

Ditto. Working in a golf shop, I've seen some pretty screwy stuff straight from the manufacturers. Just because they put it on doesn't mean it's lined up correctly! I will say, however, that almost all the Scotty's I've seen have had pretty well-aligned grips.

I bought two Scotty red X 35" putters - but I thought they had sent me one in 34" and one in 35" by mistake because they were not the same length :crazy:

Until I discovered that the red Baby T grip was almost one inch longer on one of the putters, which explained the difference in lenght between the two putters - and made me realize that NOBODY and I mean NOBODY can be sure anything coming from a golf manufacturer is made with the proper precision and care - not even a $275 putter from Scotty Cameron with a $20 Baby T grip ;) ;)

I have seen my share of Cameron grips from the factory that have been installed crooked. If you look at enough of them, you'll find just as many as other brands. I don't know why but Red X putters always seemed to be the ones coming in to be adjusted. Maybe it's the Baby T, but I've adjusted a few of them as have my friends.

Go ahead and put whatever grip you feel comfortable with. It's not like Cameron grips are unavailable. If you're really worried about it, get a good cubmaker to take if off for you so you can reuse it. If you're looking for a new one, check out the Cameron website, most of them are still availble although pricey. Any grip that is not there can usually be found on Ebay.

When I was in my "Tiger" phase, one of the first things I'd do when I purchased a Cameron was pull the grip and throw on the black out Pings. If I tired of the putter, I'd just slip the original grip back on. Don't worry about it.....if you're using it...you're not selling it. ;)

Here's how I see it - you bought the putter to putt with - not to sell.

Put the grip on it that you think will allow you to make the most putts.

Yeah it makes the value go down. I won't buy a putter if it doesn't have a Scotty grip...not necessarily the stock grip, just a Scotty grip. Unless the putter is a really good deal than I would buy a Scotty grip and put it on.

Saying that you wouldn't but a putter with a non-Cameron putter is almost the equivalent of having someone other than Scotty refinish a putter for you... It can always be returned to original, and let's face it the Cameron grips may not fit everyone's preferances!

I wasn't saying that Cameron grips fit everyone b/c they don't. Some people like the Winn feel better or another grip. It is not the equivalent to get it refinished by another person other than Scotty. Who can tell the difference between a Scotty finish and an aftermarket finish or a Scotty paintfill and a non Scotty paintfill? I sure can't. A LOT of people won't buy a putter w/o a Scotty grip. Besides, I am entitled to my opinion. If I want a Scotty grip I can have a Scotty grip.

I agree just for the fact that I don't like to buy equipment someone else has messed with. I don't by drivers that have been reshafted either. I prefer to do my own doctoring and don't trust people I don't know to do it properly.
