Which shaft is better

It all depends on the person. I have played the YS shafts before the NV shafts came out. The shafts played quite a bit softer. You had to go to the SX to get a true stiff in the lighter shafts and the X was not that stout either. I think this is why so many people liked them. The majority of people play shafts that are too stiff for them. With the YS series, you could play a shaft that said "Stiff" and have it fit even if you needed a regular from another maker. All this meant that I got to stoke my ego and play an X that was really just a bit stiffer than a stiff shaft from another maker ;) The heavier YS shafts played truer to flex. The YS7 anYS 8.1 shafts were great for me in fairway woods. So, with all that being said, in my opinion, there is no "better" with shafts. You just buy the one that fits you.

I believe the YS-7+ was the most used according to the Darrell Survey.

I have a YS-6+ stiff in a Titleist 905T and 904F. I swing at 108 MPH and it keeps up nicely. It feels soft, but that also translates into good feel for me. I think it's a shaft for "swingers" (yeah, baby!!) rather than hitters is all. It feels like a high quality shaft, with a perceptible "kick" through the impact area.

I really can't think of two more different shafts than the NV and the YS-6+ to compare. Personally, I just can't hit an NV because they launch too low. The kickpoint is higher and it causes it to feel a little "boardy" to me. The flex is about the same bewteen the two shafts as far as I'm concerned. I hit both straight, but on different trajectories, which tells me the flex is correct. The YS-6+ launches on a mid-high trajectory for me.

I have heard the original ys-6 shafts played a little soft to flex, and that the ys-6+ plays truer to flex. I have also heard these shafts must be tipped properly for them to play to the correct flex. Being the 905T is a bore-thru, it feels plenty stable and stiff enough, but I'm not sure how it would feel in a non bore-thru hosel. A lot of that would depend on a clubfitter knowing what they're doing.

Bottom line: I have a hard time believing these shafts are good enough for pros, but they just can't hold up to the swings of golf forum posters...

I for one feel the NV is WORLDS better then any graphite ys-6,7 whatever. I have tried them and they all feel whippy and loopy like a noodle or something. NV is alot more stable and also provides more distance. My swing speed is 115 so the ys-6 isn't really made for me.

I had the same experience. The YS had a nice kick but I would balloon it compared to the NV in the driver. I went back to my NV and have a consistently better trajectory and more distance. The YS does work better for some with slower swing speeds. It's not a bad shaft but just not for me.

Don't kid yourself...the YS-6 in X flex, when tipped properly, is a great shaft and widely used on the PGA Tour. It's been a staple on tour for a few years now. ;)

I agree. I am a BIG fan of YS-6 shafts, I just like the way the feel and perform. The trick is............get them properly fitted, as Hifade mentions here.

I also play an NV in my backup driver - it's a good powerful shaft as well, but I think I get more FEEL from the YS-6 lineups.

I'll add another vote for YS-6 and YS-7 shafts- I love the perceptible kick through impact, especially when my tempo is good and I'm swinging well. On the other hand, atleast for my swing and preferences, the NV-75 was probably the worst shaft I've never used- felt like a board, with zero feel or feedback. YMMV, of course, but I for one believe that NV is waaay overated.
