Looked like the smaller head size too. The same AK is playing? Is that a whiteboard I see in there?

I bet tiger will switch back to the SQ tour after this week.

I don't know why everyone keeps ragging on the Dymo. IT"S AN ABSOLUTE CANNON!!!!!

Granted, the ones that AK and Tiger are playing are not the same ones you and I can buy (smaller head size - different COG - less spin, etc.....), but the retail version ... with the right shaft ... is a MONSTER!!!!

Not trying to rag on the Dymo, but Tiger seems to stick to things that have worked for him in the past. He rarely switches, so. I have not hit the Dymo but I'm sure it is quality for tiger to even think to switch. Why change after what happened at the US Open.

just browsed all the pics on getty and interestingly found that Tiger's swing now is slightly different compared to that of last year; not sure if it's just me (as we haven't seen him play for a few months) or there was really some change?

i've found;

1) the finish of his iron shots look a bit different; it looks a bit like Luke Donald's now

2) on top of his backswing the club looks a bit open as if he attemps to hit shots from a flatter and more rounded arc (i assume this way he could just have a more leveled waist turn thereby less snapping?)

3) also noticed a pic where he tees off with a fairway wood - he seems to squad more than he used to?

and obviously his lob wedge is no longer Vr...it was either the old SV tour (raw finish) or the first generation flat-back lob wedge...funny

i'd like to know what you guys think though...

i dont see the lead tape but maybe a smaller head wasnt cutting the swing weight for him...im doubting his decision to go 380cc this week...he will probably win anyhow but the course can play 7800 yards but has wide wide fairways...plus considering he may not want to push his knee the hardest he ever has the 460 could give him some quality distance.

Tiger has had a lot of time to test the equipment he is playing this week.

His swing isn't any different, he just is playing some different shots that he can play now that he has an ACL. I am pretty excited to see how he plays tomorrow.

When your clubhead speed is 120+ you don't need to worry about distance. He knowingly sacrifices distance by using a ball that spins "too much" off the driver. On top of which, as long as it has a COR of .830 where he's making impact on the face he won't be sacrificing any distance from what he'd get out of a 460cc driver (assuming solid contact with both clubs). Those extra cc's only get you more distance (forgiveness) on off center hits.

What driver was he playing in 2000? What was his total driving rank? How did he fare that year? Somehow I think he'll be fine with the 380. ;)

saw he was gaming the Victory Red blades too

WOW are those a copy of his old Mizzy blades or what?

I hope that's a joke...

otherwise, you've got a lot of homework to do.

He's playing a set of Victory Red blades designed with his input- a little different from the victory reds others are playing and the ones in stores. The Mp-14s/29s have influenced the design of every blade he's played since, so yeah there are some similarities.

a valid argument.

A side note though,

why do most assume he bases every thing off an iron he played before. and why does it have to be the mizuno blades (14 - 29 combo set). he did play a set of ping eye 2's. why couldn't those have been an inspiration?

he played a cobra deep face driver to win the 97' masters.

Is every driver he plays after that some how inspired by that driver?

I was thinking that it is important to realize that sometimes ideas come from other areas rather than a similar product. for instance, car designers. a lot of engineers have used the designing features of jets in their automotive concepts.

I guess "I'm" just fed up with the whole Mizuno iron "supremacy" idea. Sometimes people make it sound as if mizuno came up with the idea of a muscle back blade iron (which couldn't be farther from the truth) If i had a nickle for every time some one said or wrote, "Those look like mizunos with a (nike, titleist) stamp on them" i'd be a flippin' millionaire.

I would probably game a set of mp-29's, but other than that, i personally think every other set mizuno has designed is very difficult to look at. their 8 - pw is especially ugly and bulky. the looks of the VR's at address are so much cleaner and straight forward.

Maybe I am the only one in the world, but i really don't like mizuno irons.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think Mizuno makes some pretty fugly short irons. I've owned every set of blades they've put out over the last 10 years and it seems that the designs get worse and worse.
