My NEW BIG OAK "Cairo" w/UST Shaft!!

Making a strong push to be my gamer!

Just got my "Cairo" from Dave at Big Oak Putters. He posted a pic of one of these a little while back and it seemed like people either really liked the look, or they didn't.

Alot of people commented on the look where the hosel flows into the head. To be honest, and maybe the black finish helps, but I got used to the look after about a minute. This was the only one he made with a sightline on it rather than a dot, and I like the line better than I think I'd like the dot.

It has a great weight to it - the head is 345 grams, but feels heavier. It has a great feel, really solid. Great sound too...nice click.

It has a UST Frequency Filtered shaft and the Balance Certified weight kit in it with a #5 weight in the grip.

As with all of the putters I've gotten from Dave, I am super impressed with his crafstmanship. I've been putting with this alot inside and I took it out to the green behind the house last evening to roll it on a real green and really liked it. It rolls the ball very nicely. In my opinion, one of Dave's specialties is getting the "balance" to feel right. It's hard to put into words. His putters just seem to feel even, solid, balanced...you have to try one to know what I mean. Those of you with Big Oak putters should know what I mean!

I compared it to my normal "gamer", a Big Oak B3 with UST F.F. shaft/B.C. weight kit and it has come the closest of any other putter to knocking the B3 out of the bag.

I hope to do more testing as soon as I can, but for now, here are some pics...

I remember when Dave posted the "proto" of this putter a few months back. The end result is very nice. I love the idea of the cavity. It's hidden very well from the top view and I bet it swings much smoother then a regular blade. Great stuff Dave! Mapleleaf..thanks for sharing!

Dave shop is right down the street from my office and somtimes I wonder if that is good or not. I tend to spend way tooo much time in there looking at all the toys. He has been making quality putters for many years and orginally worked for Tad Moore. I love the addition of the UST putter shafts with his heavier putter heads which adds up to a great feeling putter. Great guy to deal with, forward thinking, and very fair!!

The more I roll this, the more I like it. Gonna have a hard time deciding which putter to keep in the bag!

 

The UST shaft seems (and it could be me) even more noticeable in this style head than the other head style I have it in (a heel-toe style). Obviously I don't have a normal-shafted "Cairo" to compare it to, but a well-struck putt feels so sweet with this putter.

 

Since I got my B3 from Dave awhile back, this is honestly the first putter to have a good chance at replacing it in the bag.

I saw this putter in your what's in the bag thread, this one looks superb. I have always been a big fan of heel shafted blades, this one is sweet. Congrats!

I just took out my Havana and installed the Balance Certified weight kit in it, and now I'm thinking that IT may be my gamer!

 

The Havana is a beautiful head. I agree, everybody should have one of Dave's creations. I chuckle when I think of all the Camerons I have that will never be in my bag again.
