The longest Par 5 you've reached in two

Recommended Posts

The 538 yard #7 at Chateau Whister, Whistler British Columbia, Canada.

You have a blind tee shot, which happened to get a hell of a kick, apparently, as I had about 240 left. I'm usually around 260-270 on my drives, so I rarely reach in 2.

The second shot plays a lot closer to 210-220, because it's a bit downhill.

Stuck a 5W to within 10 feet, and drained the putt.

Then proceeded to put my tee shot on the Par 3 #8, their signature hole, to give the strokes back...

Idk the exact yardage but just over 600 yards I think at Sweetwater Country Club. Downhill lie from about 260 yards out and bounced up onto the middle of the green. Plays shorter due to the tee shot being downhill.

Ive gotten home on that hole as well. Im guessing that's the longest par 5 I've ever gotten home in two. Not really sure.

582 Hillcrest G.C. Hillcrest # 4

Flat par five cut the corner as much as I could, had about 255 left I hit a dead solid 3 wood that caught the first tier and rolled back to the front of the green. The bad news was the pin was in the back left location on the top tier which is about 9-10 feet above the front of the green and on the 3rd tier.

I hit my putt about as hard as I could and prayed. After some 100 feet plus of multi tiered putt I left my self somehow with a 12 footer for birdie which I made.

Check out the description of the green in the link.

The third hole at Mozingo Lake Golf Course is on the card at 579. It is kind of a double dog leg almost. When it plays downwind on windy days, it can be very easy. When it plays into the wind, it can be a beast. One glorious day, there was a 15 mph tailwind, and I played the hole driver nine iron for eagle. I've also played it driver, three wood and come up 50-100 yards short. Just completely depends on the wind.

I once went driver, 5 iron (cart path long and a bit right to 7's fairway), LW blind shot to the green, and a tap in for 4. Wild ride!

610, but I had about a 20 mph tailwind and the ground was rock hard.  Hole was realistically playing about 100 yards shorter given the conditions. 525 is normally about the max I can cover with two shots.

Eagle Vale in Fairport, NY. 485 yd par 5 18th with a Taylormade Midsize System 2,  9.5 driver and Titleist Tour Balata. Hit it to the front of the green with the pin two tiers up 40' away. The ball found the hole for an eagle to card a 31 on the  back for a 39-31 70. Only time I ever reached that green in two. Only time I have ever beaten par for 18. Heck, as a life long 11-12HCer, it was one of the few times I've ever broken 80. I still have the driver and the card.

594 is my actual longest, but it plays a tad shorter than that as the second shot is down hill

If we want to get really granular, my longest approach that I hit a par 5 was from 281. It is a 564 yard hole, but the landing area requires a driving iron off the tee. To be fair, I figured my 3w would end up just short of the green, but I absolutely smacked one to about 15-feet. Didn't make the putt, though.

It came at the Canyons Course at Waldorf Astoria in Park City, UT. PC is site of US Winter Olympics training center.

profile.pngIt's a 570 yd. par 5, downhill, with a tee box at about 8,000 feet. I hit a nice draw that carried well, and then ran out quite a bit. I had ~ 240 left to the green. I hit a 4W and pushed it just a bit, and it landed on a downslope in the right edge of rough. I looked around the landing spot about 20 yards short of the green, and saw a ball up down on the fringe (I guess that counts?)  It was mine, it had bounced out of trouble.

I was about 40 feet from the cup, with the green draining downhill and I chipped it.....

...20 feet past. Had a ho-hum first putt back up hill, and had to sink a 3-footer to save par.

It's a really different course. Has par 69 with 7 par threes and 7 par fours. I  played the middle Blue tees: 5561 yards / 66.1 rating / 133 Slope. Course has about 600 foot rise and fall from low point to high point. Front nine does most of the up and down the mountains, and the back nine has more of a gently rolling hills look.

image.png.14626f541b433db66dac2c7149722a01.png

Cart paths on the Canyons front nine had numerous alpine switchbacks to prevent runaway carts.

Golf carts are required (it's not walkable). And yes, mountain air really is thinner. My wife was with me, and a couple of the holes required a walk about 100 yards from the cart path to the green. After putting out, we just sat in the cart and caught our breath for a few minutes.

Earlier that week I had played the Park City Golf Club (municipal), at around 6,800 feet. I was playing by myself with some locals, and thought I would show my sportsmanship and walk with them. They told me no, get a cart, visitors can't handle the walk until about six weeks there.

Years ago, it was a 560 yds.

Most recent was  last Monday  at 485 yds.

Missed eagle putt from about 8 ft. Settled for the birdie. At 62 yrears old getting home in two is increasingly hard.

IN the early 1980's I played weekdays at the Gambler's paradise - Colony West Country Club in Florida. The weekly big money games were full of well-known people, from Moe Norman, to Marty Stanovich, to Evel kneivel, to Joe Namath, to Dean Martin, on and on.

The first hole was a 621 yard par 5. That was 40 years ago. It's been shortened now.

Balata, Persimmon woods and 621 yards.

A thread bump after 12 years!  I think that is the largest I’ve seen here!

Unfortunately, I don’t reach many par fives anymore.

When I saw this thread I saw that I had posted in it. Having not remembered posting in a topic like this recently, I clicked in it to see how old it was. I was 19 when I first replied in this thread 😳. 19 year old me…32 year old you is taking your advice and still keeping up the gym work, however the most important thing at this age has been dedicated stretching sessions: 4 times a week for 15 minutes.

Anyway, in the past 12 years I reached a 626 yard par 5 in two (Driver, 3 iron) but missed the putt. Course was in Denver so elevation played a major factor there. The 581 yard sea-level hole from 12 years ago is still my longest.

630 yards on a the par 5 4th at Heritage Park in Olathe Kansas.  Lit fire to a drive and was actually in the rough by about 3 feet and then hit a 2 hybrid from 270 that caught the down slope in front of the green and got up on the front edge and rolled to 20 feet. Didn't make the putt but did make an easy birdie.  Did play a course in Winchester Virginia called Rock Harbor that has three par 5's that are 715, 693, and 683 respectively and they are monsters and are the best set of par 5's I have ever seen on any course public or private.  Tough ask to get home in two on any of them at that length though!!

I don’t know the answer, but a few experiences come to mind. Almost any hole is reachable by long hitters if the conditions are right.

1. I played Connemara Golf Links (Ireland) in a gale about 20 years ago. It was stupid windy and the course was rock hard. Number 7 was down wind, 531 meters or 580 yards. Driver went 400 in right rough. I had 180 to center. Chose a 9i. In those conditions it is likely the top gets blown off and I was just guessing. Anyway, it landed in front and ended up 30 yards over! I was playing with Hans and his wife  from Holland. They had some kind of a game going on. It was hilarious. The next hole was straight back into it - 479 yard par 4. I hit driver, got under a 3w, which went nowhere, and nuked a 3i to get home.

2. Kapalua - as others have mentioned, can play short due to prevailing wind and downhill. (Played it 3 times from around 590? = 6i, 8i, 6i).

3. A tough one to get on the green in 2 would be La Purisima #12 (609 yards). Due to trees and green shape. Monte has probably done it. I’ve played it about 7 times and had a good chance once, but no cigar. I no longer hit it far enough to reach from the back tees.

Moundsville Country Club, WV. 15th hole, 601 yards. I was about 12 ft on from the front and made the 10 footer for eagle. This is the only time I was ever on this hole in two in over 60 rounds of golf.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.
