Can anyone compare the 917 F2 vs. F3? Love the shape of the F3, but kind of want to try the F2.

Ask and you "Shiel" receive.

Never been a huge fan or Shiels or Crossfield, but do respect they are solid players and test a lot of clubs. Both went with the F2, interesting! Now I'm wondering if I keep the same lofts in both.

For me, the F2 tended to launch slightly higher with a little more spin than the F3. Mishits were slightly more forgiving with the F2 on shots hit a little towards the toe and heel. Basically what you'd expect out of more shallow club with a larger footprint. Thought the F2 was a little too "pancake" looking, especially when looking at it side by side against the F3(which, to my eye, the F3 looks almost perfect size-wise to me).

I would think a player of your caliber would go with whichever looks best behind the ball to you. If you don't have a huge preference of one over the other at address and you want more a little more forgiveness, then I'd go with the F2. However, I don't think the F2 has enough of a forgiveness advantage over the F3 to choose it over the F3 if you really prefer the looks of the F3.

Did the F2 have more draw bias? Spin seems very similar.

I didn't really notice the F2 having much of a draw bias. If anything, I'd say the F3 may have had a slight fade bias, where the F2 was more neutral, maybe slightly draw, but honestly it wasn't that noticeable. I will say that if I came out of a shot and got that wipey fade face contact, the F2 would spin out and lose some distance, where the F3 tended to stay more on line and keep most of it's distance. On the other hand, hard draws(errr... slight hooks) tended to perform pretty well with the F2, where the F3 still ended up decent, but the spin numbers would drop borderline too low.

Interesting - I'm just going to have to try it. I love the F3, just want a little more forgiveness. Only a couple weird shots, but overall the 917s have been really good for my game.

F3 is really solid, couldn't get used to the muted sound and feel though. I liked the 915 a lot better in that regard. F3 did seem a little more fade biased if anything with the neutral weight than both 915 FD and F. But the bias weight did make a noticeable difference for me in swing feel and shot shape in the F3, it's a nice feature. I don't have enough time on the 917F2 to comment versus that, F3 shape looked too good to bother much with the F2.

JJ - good to hear from you man. Your advice is close to what my fitter at TPI actually just sent me:

"The F2 will have a larger footprint. Might be easier to hit in the air, and might be easier to turn over from right to left. With that said you can always move the CG to the Toe to create that fade flight you like out of the F3. I'd think the F3 should be fine for you but with the ability to move the weight around both are very good options. I think 1st call is what looks best to you."

After my reply, he thinks I should stay with the F3. I love the F3 off the tee and use it more from there than the turf.

Very sound advice ;)

The F3 looks a tiny bigger than the 915 FD which makes it sit behind the ball perfect off the tee. Can't really get much better as far as shape for a versatile tee/ground club. Can't belive you're still playing 2015 irons and wedges. I pretty much copied your first 716 set up, hasn't changed since.

You laugh, but I tried a friend's 5 hybrid on the range this week and it was like cheating. I think I'm going there, or at least a 5 driving hybrid. For me, graphite shafted irons are the "gateway" clubs... ;)

I wish that I could hit a hybrid, I swear I have to be the only one that hits a 100 yard duck hook with everyone I have ever had...

Glad to see you back in the game, Tai. I keep trying to convince myself to try the next whatever from whoever, but keep drifting back to wanting the full Titleist setup. Gonna be in Santa Monica in January and may have to make the trip to Carlsbad for a fitting.

Thanks guys!

My insider tour info on the M3/M4 is that ball speeds should be similar but misses are better, especially on the toe. One tour player gained a crazy amount of ball speed, but I have my doubts about that #. All in all, to me from the feedback it seems very similar to the other drivers they have put out.

That, to me, is where the M2 shines. It’s like the GLS without the terrible sound/feel.

Definitely not the sexiest choice, especially on WRX.. but I'd rate them in terms of distance 8/10 and playability would be 10/10. Where I'd rate the Epic 11/10 and 7/10 :)
