I am waiting for your Twist Face thoughts and photos by the pool of your new driver. :0

You should know my newly revised vetting process: see pre-release spy pics on WRX, wait for #___WRX trip, wait for #____WRX reviews, wait to see if Tiger's using it, wait for J13 to try it, wait for J13 to try it with proto shaft, wait for Scratchswinger to try it, go spend lots of $$ to test on Trackman then use extensively on course,<pool pics>, gain 30 yards, go back to ____ D3, <pool pics> :cheesy: :partytime2:

I approve of your process! :taunt: J13 will give you his thoughts as soon as my M4 head arrives. Well that is if he can deal with hitting it with the TP 7TX that he has "been there done that" with. :to_become_senile:

very nice process. Come to think about it... just skip the purchase and keep the D3. I just read a post from a member here claiming that DJ has gained only 5 yards on average over the last like 8 years on tour. What does that mean. Drivers are max'd?

statistics can be used to support any argument . . . just pick a side and start cherry picking :)

Drivers are "maxed". I mean what has the golf world come to? Manufactures now tweaking things to hit the ball straighter not longer? :superman:

Part of me thinks this whole "twist face" thing is just a brilliant smoke and mirrors marketing play by TM, because there is almost no quantifiable way to measure if the driver is actually straighter for 99% of golfers. All the marketing surrounding twist face would then pull some slight of hand on guys like us, especially ones with simple minds like myself, to buy into this whole "straighter" thing when for all I know this is almost the same driver they've had for the past few years (just silver).

The Rogue is designed to be more forgiving, but they don't have a marketing/buzz word correlated to that.. hmm..... :read: :pardon:

Agreed. It's all marketing jargon. Bulge and roll is on every driver. Twist face is just bulge and roll and Cobra has had their own "twist face" for several generations now without marketing it.

Also, dont sleep on the F8+ Pure in your testing. That thing is a monster with the sound/feel to boot.

I'll eventually hit the Cobra, it does look cool and I've been a fan of the shape over the years. I'm just really content with the 917 and how good it makes my sh*tty swings look.. no real plans to test any of the new drivers if I'm being honest. Of course.. this could change in the coming months once I start to see them hit the the course :)

Both models of Epic driver were designed for the better player; looking at their shapes that was obvious and also borne out by what I saw in fitting dozens of players of all ability levels for them last year. Have done a few fittings and messed around with the Rogue and Rogue SZ on course, and it's becoming clear that Callaway's objective with Rogue was to produce drivers with Jailbreak that are playable for a broader spectrum of the market (hence the addition of the draw model as well). The differences between Epic and Rogue are subtle at first look, but the more closely you look for them the more they become apparent.

Also, there aren't a bunch of new Epic drivers sitting on shelves (anecdotally, my local Watts store is sold out) at retail so the guy who told himself that he'd wait to buy a new Epic at a deep discount may find that his strategy backfires...but of course Callaway will be glad to sell that guy a shiny new Rogue.

I agree with Albatross...the F8+ is a very impressive product. In person, it looks much more conventional than pictures and video indicated. Sounds good, feels good, and performs as well as anything else available.

Great points.. my impression of the SZ Rogue is that if the old SZ is the 917D3, the Rogue looks more D2. Opposite for the fairways, the SZ Rogue 3wd looks more F3 (deeper faced/compact head) model.

Pretty accurate assessment on the drivers. The Rogue SZ driver is ever so slightly shallower and longer from toe to heel than the Epic SZ. To my eye at least, the Rogue SZ FW is shallower than Epic SZ but I haven't actually measured to verify that. The very little bit of testing I've done with the Rogue FW shows that it is indeed a screamer, but can't really speak to it's overall playability.

Had the Rogue come out last year and the Epic this year, they would be promoting it as more forgiving and powerful with a full (no hourglass) jailbreak and more carbon fiber.

Anyway, the whole WRX community is waiting for Tai’s driver tests. At this point is more like a moral responsibility #please

After hitting the Rouge the other day I told myself that I going to resist testing any drivers this year and just play what I have been using.

Well in case you missed it he has to wait for me to test with a proto shaft and if i like it then he tests it :taunt:

I think the Rogue SZ fairway is perfection and the size is somewhere in between the F3 and F2. Loved the glued hosel so i can have it bent to my liking.

As J13 and some others know, or anyone that reads my signature, I have a full TM bag. A few years ago I would have never guessed I would. Through my time playing competitively in school and many years after, I always had a full Titleist bag. It was easy to do so with Acushnet helping us out as a team. I for one achieve better numbers with my 17’ M2 than the 917 but could Play either.

I must say that I will have to be careful not grabbing a Rogue SZ. I just never cared for the look of the Epic, but the Rogue look at address and feel and sound is much improved, imho. I was only able to hit it with a small Callaway fitting cart with only a MRC D+ X shaft. I was much impressed!
