Difference between Tommy Armour 845 and 855

Are the 855's less offset and smaller heads? I just got my nephew a set of 845 and I like them except they have way to much offset for me. I like a bit of offset but not that much. Just curious what the diff. is

If I remember right the 855's were bigger and had less offset. They never did as well as the 845's. I played a set for about 9 years, great club.

When comparing the original 845 to the original 855, the 855 is slightly larger. The 855 was offered in two offset options. The regular 855 had the same offset as the 845, but they also offered a reduced offset version. The reduced offset had less offset in the 1-6 iron, as I recall. If you can find them, this would be the model you're looking for.

 

It is also important to remember that Tommy Armour "re-issued" the 845 with several variations as they tried to recapture market share. Several were from the same molds, but they also used the 845 label on irons that were of different designs.

I have the similar question. I noticed some 855s has a yellow cycle and some has a black cycle on the back of the clubs. which one would have less offset? Thanks.

As I recall, the black was the less offset model. Actually, I liked the 855s a little better because of the finish and slightly larger head, but as ac130nav said, they never seemed to catch on like the 845s.

I can confirm those two traits and a serious negative. They fouled up the bounce angles on the short irons. An associate of mine, a Champions Tour major winner told me this. Subsequently, they lost most of their tour players from both tours.

I remember the 855s having bigger heads, but not sure about the offset. I think the offset was pretty close on both.

You are correct that the 855 had a bigger head. I missed that query. As for the offset, I am not quite certain.

855's have a slightly larger size with a taller toe than the 845's. Offsets are about the same. The cavity back is slightly different on the 855's also, probably a weighting thing. T A reissued the 855 later on and those may be the ones with the yellow cycle in the cavity.

I also thought the 855 felt a lot softer than the 845s. Might have been my imagination, but felt that way to me.
