I'd stick to Cleveland or maybe even go with Callaway X wedges, since Roger Cleveland went to Callaway. I play Titleist and really like them. I've really never heard anything bad about Srixon, i guess just try them out. My top 5 wedges would go as follows:

1. Cleveland CG10

2. Titleist 200 series

3. Ping MB/Tours

4. Callaway X (haven't tried them, but hearing some nice buzz)

5. TaylorMade rac Satin/Y cutters

I don't know about the Srixons - good luck. But I'd be wary of anyone who posts a Wedge in their "Top 5" and hasn't tried it.

ie, keep on looking for the Srixons - Furyk's playing them, isn't he?

Srixon wedges were the first clubs Furyk added to his bag when he signed with the company. He said he thought his lob wedge would be the most difficult club to replace and it turned out to be the first one he replaced. I believe the Srixon's replaced the Vogeys that he used to win last year's Western Open. Interesting to note that the Srixon's are forged, the Vogeys are cast. I'd like to see them sometime. The pictures look good and they come in lofts/bounces that would work for me.

sorry to bump an old topic but does anyone else have any experience with the Srixon WG-504 wedges? I'm thinking about picking up a 58* and was hoping there might be more feedback/opinions/reviews.

Forged, gunmetal finish, nice trailing edge grind...seems like a good combo but haven't read/seen/heard of anyone playing them.

The Srixon rep brought them to the range once and honestly I didn't like them. While they felt very crisp they had no forgiveness at all and didn't have any type of a soft feel. If I recall, they also felt a bit heavier than I was used to.

Still, that is just one day at the range and not an actual round of golf, so your mileage may vary.

I have used the 52 and the 56. The 56 is the longest sw I have hit. Great pitching wedge. My problem with it is its hard to really open up and hit flop shots with compared to a 57 deg cleveland I have. So I am currently using the 52 and the 57. I kept the 56 incase of a 4 wedge combo but I have no immediate plans to do so. May look at the 58 but they are hard to find this side of the ocean.

thanks for the reply. i pulled the trigger on a 58/8 on ebay earlier toady. i'll post back with my impressions once i receive it and get a couple rounds with it under my belt.

interesting that you find it difficult to open up even given the trailing edge grind.

Srixon makes great wedges, if you really want to try them out, see if you can find some of the satin finish I-302 wedges, many places have them for CHEAP and they are a first class wedge!

thanks for the additional perspectives. i bought a 58/8 off ebay for $53 + $13 S&H. not a tremendous steal but better than 99, 109 or 119 for a Vokey SM, a t15/35 or a 588 DSG.

looking forward to playing it over in the philippines in a couple weeks. i'll let you all know my impressions.

should be great to compare my t35s side by side with it.

if only i had the money, i'd also consider getting the 52 & 58 set of Gauge Japan wedges on ebay right now. man i love GD Japan's stuff.

I have had these wedges for all season, so to help those that are curious, here's my take.

I was a 588 wedge player for years, and no other wedge was going to change my mind until last winter. I went into my local store because I could not play, and being a Srixon golf ball fan, I started to check them out.

Looks: It's just like a 588 to me at address. That gives me the look I want going into a short-game shot. What really impressed me was the sole. It has the rear and front of the sole ground, which most pros and low-ams had to get done.

Feel: Just like most wedges. Nothing mythical because it is forged. The swingweight is a little lighter than the Clevelands.

Distance: No big deal here, they are scoring clubs for Pete's sake!

Performance: They just played well with my improving short-game. Espically out of the bunkers with the 60º.

In short, I think they are great!

Tried a 56 and a 60. Nice wedges. Performed well for me - the bounce angles and sole widths were about right. Well, the lob wedge had a bit too much bounce, but that can be sorted easily enough. Didn't knock my old faithfuls out of the bag, but they were a good wedge I thought. Pity they only seem to be available in that horrid black finish..

Had 'em. Didn't like them. And this is from a dedicated Srixon guy. Been playing the I-302 irons for the past year and they are simply the best irons I have ever played. Had big hopes for the Srixon 504 wedges. Just not my cup of tea. Couldn't put my finger on it particularly. Until I read an article reviewing them in a golf magazine. The dull characterless heads just didn't breed confidence in me to pull them out when I needed a shot. Better for me were the 302 wedges (also forged) and even better were the 201 wedges. I had them and foolishly sold them. I am trying desperately to get them back. 504's weren't bad - just thought there were better options - several of them within the Srixon family of clubs.
