replacing my 4 iron

I'm finally going to try a hybrid, and I want to replace my 4 iron. I've heard that since I want to replace a 4 iron I should buy a "5" hybrid to get similar distance. I want to go with a steel shaft when I get one, so is this I hear true or can I get a "4" hybrid with a steel shaft to equal my current 4 iron distance???

It is best to do some testing I played hybrids for years and it can give you a gap between the last iron and the hybrid. If you get a 5h it may not give you full 4 iron distance. I have never used a steel shafted hybrids so I can't speak to that but not all company use the same loft angles so you have choices there you can probably find a 4h that would work for you. Alot depends on the one you choose I know Bobby Jones's have lofts that are weaker, Taylormade lofts tend to be strong also consider the shaft length. I play a 3h and 4h my first iron is a 5 iron the set up I have now works well. Good luck

Doubleagle's advice is spot on.

 

The best thing to do is check to see what your current 4 iron loft is. Once you know that and you've tested several clubs that you like best, check out each company's website to make sure the hybrid you want is the correct replacement. In my bag, for example, I have a hybrid as a 5 wood replacement, but Nickent calls it at 3 (at least in the 5DX version). So there's my driver, and both my 3 wood and hybrid say "3" even though the hybrid is filling the gap between my 3 wood and 3 iron.

don't forget to check the length too. most hybrids are at least .5 inches longer than the corresponding iron
