I am around an 8 or 9 handicap and I also recently purchased the 09 Burners too. I tried both and hit them well. For me it came down to looks and the 09 Burners were a little longer.

I have had one practice session with them and I still am glad I made my decision. The long irons are longer in length than I am used to hitting so I will need some additional practice with those.

Good luck with your search.

I've posted time and time again in defense of the Tour Burner irons...

I'm a scratch golfer, play in all the state tourneys and whatnot. I've always been a blade player but migrated from the original Rac blade, to the 05 forged, and when they wore out completely, to the 08 Tour Preferred. I liked the Tour Preferred pretty well, but when a tour player friend of mine handed me a Tour Burner to hit, I instantly switched.

Why?

There's no awful, Ping Zing looking offset. The top line isn't near as chunky as a Callaway.

At address they are very similar to the Tour Preferred irons!

People will say the cavity backs will hit the ball higher or spin too much. I invite them to hit my irons. Once shafted with the SATIN PX 6.0 (and yes, sorry Royal Precision, there is a difference), my ball flight AND spin are much more controllable than with my chrome PX 6.0 shafted Tour Preferreds were.

They're maybe a 1/2 club longer, probably due to the 2* of difference in the lofts, but it actually works out great because there's no longer a need for a 3 iron and I get to carry that 4th wedge I've always liked to carry (I went with bending my wedges to 50, 56, 62).

I'm sure the 09 Burners are great also, but I just don't like the address view of a few of them or the fact that they aren't really a flowing set of irons (they remind me much more of a cavity back, super GI combo set).

You can't go wrong with either, but the Tour Burners are a great set of irons and you can find them for super cheap!

Completely agree as I use the tour burners also with PX. For the life of me, I can't understand why a +3.6 handicap golfer, as noted in another post, would even consider the 09 Burners let alone change to them? This accomplished golfer doesn't need distance, forgiveness etc... and most of all, why would they even want to look down at all that chunkiness in the long and mid irons? It baffles the mind! As always, just my opinion on the matter and I'm not cutting up the new 09 Burners.

I demoed the 09 Burners for the sixth time today and try as I may I can,t warm up to them. I was hitting my AP2s and Mac Pro-Cs along with the burners and for the first time the Tour Burners. I keep clunking the 09 Burners fat because I think it must be the added length because I don't do that with other irons. That or it's grind. I must admit I really liked the Tour Burners along with the Tour Preferreds.

Simply, Tour B's are a more traditional GI set with medium offset, topline, sole width, etc. The B's are more like a SGI (long irons) GI (short irons) combo set.

Better golfers don't need distance or forgiveness? Everyone wants distance and forgiveness.
