My second set ever was a set of ISI steels. Marvelous clubs. They were the wrong color code and shaft but I still loved 'em. I hit them side by side with Mizunos, Callaways, etc. and they felt just as good. Now I've got Eye 2's only because I got a super cheap set ($75) that fit perfectly but I loved the ISI's and look forward to playing them again. Ping has totally got it going on for the beginner.

I just stopped using them actually, I got a deal on a set of i5's but for a long time there was no iron that could get those out of my bag...and they still might go back in if the i5's dont work out...

Not to be a vulture and threadjack, but if your i5's don't work out PM and I'll buy them.

I'm still playing my ISI beryllium copper red dots.

That said, i haven't even tried anything new and I'm wondering the same thing ... would I be better off with newer irons? Has technology really improved in irons that much?

And in the newer iron classifications, how would the ISI's be classified (SGI, GI, etc.)?

Thanks!

I've tried a lot of the new irons -- and picked up a set of iSi's on ebay - new irons won't help you play better than these if they fit - you will get more feedback with other irons and/or a more precise feel, but these are golden. You're better off getting wedges fit to your game.

I play the ISI-k green dots/reg. jz cusion. I love these clubs. My only issue is they are extremely light. Any suggestions for a stiffer shaft? How is the turnaround time for WRX? Thanks for any responses. This site is addictive and wonderfull!!!

My turnaround time was about a week in Ping Repair -- that was about 2 months ago -- call Ping, ask questions, if you decide to go ahead, the Ping Rep will put your repair order into their system, give you a repair authorization number, you download the repair sheet, complete it and put in the number given.

I think the only way for Ping to add swingweight or weight in the iSi is for you to go with a heavier or slightly longer length shaft.

With the newer clubs, they use the pad in the cavity to adjust swingweight.

Great irons! I play a set in my back up bag when I travel. I am actually a little longer with the ISIs then my TM R7 TPs. In my opinion the ISIs were Ping's best follow up from the classic EYE2s.

I had a set of ISI Coppers for a long time. I tried the Raptures and, for me, I was a bit more consistent - although it could be the fact that I don't play nearly as often as I used to. The Raptures are much more forgiving, especially when I'm out of practice. I also found the ISI's to be a little light. Nonetheless they were great clubs. Gifted them to a friend of mine and now he's playing great golf.

Thanks for the info. I will definately be calling them today! Any suggestions for a shaft?

That depends on what you want the shaft to do -- I assume the JZ Shaft is what you have in there now -- the old stock shaft. I use the JZ in a stiff and I normally take a regular + in a flex. So I'd say it plays a little soft to flex. The JZ does get the ball up -

You need to know what you don't like about the current shaft -- does it work for you? do you want the ballflight lower? Is the flex OK?

If you want a heavier shaft to increase swingweight or bring down ballflight, download the Ping WRX Catalog, and look at the weights compared to the JZ and kickpoints -- the higher the kick, normally the lower the ballflight.

Talk to the guys at Pings, tell us what they recommend, then ask more questions here before ordering if you are uncertain.

I have the reg flex jz in them now. The ball tends to balloon on me. I'm looking for a lower ball flight and a heavier swingweight. I'm going to call them on monday. I will post there recommendations for further advice. Anything and everything is much appreciated.

Well, the stiff flex JZ goes very high -- I can only imagine what regular flex does.

Dowload the Ping WRX catalog over the weekend, give people more facts about your swing -- as in regular flex works for me but the JZ goes too high. What do I do with these options?

I've had the ISI-Ks twice :-) Was unhappy after selling them the first time and bought another set - then got a set of TM RACs and had to decide - ended up selling the ISI-Ks again and keeping the TMs since the TMs were longer. Fell out of happiness with the TMs and have been through a good few sets since - really wish I had kept the ISI-K's since, aptough I hit them less far, they were far more consistent for me - should have kept 'em.
