what flex's on Tour?

I know that alot of the guys use X100's ,s400's and Rifles 6.5 upwards.

Does anybody know of other shafts flexes etc that might suprise us?


I remember a few years ago Scot Hoch had Yonex graphites set at 8.0 which is likew xxx.Also Loren roberts has s200 's that were soft stepped to play like r400's.Tommy Armour 111 used iron shafts with a 8.5 flex!

Any more information that may be of interest.


Ps i know that what the pros use will have no reflection of my own choices.I doubt if they would play Grafalloy attack lite a flex in their Driver either?

I was right by the tee box watching Lee Westwood tee off on a par three last week.

I noticed that he had JZ Cushion Stiff shaft bands on his Ping Zing 2 irons. I obviously don't know if thats really what he was playing, but I don't know why else he would have those shaft bands on there.

It seems that most of those guys don't have shaft bands on their clubs, because of all the custom fitting/building.

 

What seemed strange was that the JZ Cushion Stiff didn't feel very stiff to me. I played them in a set of ISI's years ago. They worked well for me, just you wouldn't think they would work for a tour player.

 

I don't think they've used those as their stock shaft since the original i3.

 

Probably a lot of stuff out there that would surprise us.

 

I remember seeing that about Scott Hoch's irons, man that seems stiff. I wouldn't think he would have the club head speed for something like that.

Great question, and one I don't really know the answer to. I have always guessed that there would be a ton of X's out there. I would love to read a response from Joey Kwok on this topic. He would know EXACTLY what's happening out there with shafts and flexes.

John Daly uses what, XX flex shaft in his driver?

 

but i hear he uses like a R flex shaft on his lob wedge, cuz he likes the smooth feel or something,

Zach Johnson recently changed from his 990's to the 695cb's. I know for sure he played normal stock off the rack s300 shafts that came in the 990's.

 

I worked as a marshall at an event last year, and I was surprised at how many of the pros played as light of flex as they did. I know lots did play very stiff, or not have bands on their shafts I assume they are customs, but I saw lots of rifle 5.5, 6.0 and s300. Also lots of x100

The flex in irons may be weaker just for the fact that people don't usually go all out with their irons, and instead focus on feel and tempo trying to hit the ball the right distance

yes it seems that Westwood has played the same flex in his Ping Irons from school days never seeing the need to change.
