Blowing up a bag and rebuilding

help me
I'm in the process of blowing up and rebuilding my wifes golf bag

right now shes got some starter set irons, some dunlop woods and a driver thats WAY too low lofted for her swing

They don't have a handicap index high enough to put her on the chart but she LOVES to play just for the enjoyment factor, score just isn't important to her.

I'm thinking 14 clubs is going to be way overkill, plus I think she'd do better with learning how to hit 5-6 clubs consistantly, then thinking about how to hit 14 different clubs

so I was thinking of this setup

Driver

Forgiving high launch hi spin (Tour Edge Houdini, SQ, Callaway)

Fairway woods

Probably

5 or7 wood to use for longer aproaches

and

11 or 13 wood to use for shorter stuff

irons

here's where I'm stumped

the 25* wood she has now goes about 110 yards, so finding a club to go inside of that is hard. I was actually considering going with something like a lovett wedge to give her a high trajectory shot around the greens

wedges
She probably could use the hybrid wedge out of the sand and for high lofted chip shots, and then adding something like a chipper would give her more options around the green

Its a different bag I know, but anyone have any opinions?

Have you considered a junior set? The height isn't normally a factor for women, and the weight and flex of the clubs would match perfectly. I know that Ping makes a junior set called the Moxie set with the right stuff for about $220. The set should match fine.

Try to find the Calloway GES (game enjoyment system) clubs for your wife. My wife, who's partially disabled uses them and loves them. They're specially designed for women, higher lofted, shorter graphite shafts, and only 7 clubs in a smaller bag (driver, 2 fairways, 3 irons, and a putter). For example, the driver is 18*, making it easier to get the ball in the air for players with a slow or average swing. My wife sounds exactly like yours, loves the game but high handicapper (is it possible to have a 3 digit handicap? lol). This set has been great for her.

Here's a couple of sites where you can read up on the set:

Here's where you can get a set, under $300:

The Callaway GES are a nice set up. My mother in law has some and they are nice. I am going to buy knock off components from Diamond Tour Golf or Golfsmith and build my wife a new set. She also has a Dunlop set and really only needs about 8 clubs. Think I will try to build alot of high lofted hybrids for her. Here is the heads I think I will buy to build a set of irons for my wife. She thinks they are Prettty :)

what up....i was thinking of the same thing for my wife.......she wants to golf starting this year and she is really really new to the game......i was half tempted to buy here a junior set........she's small for a lady........but i talked to the golf pro and he said that the junior set would be way to small for her....so he recommended and suggested that i should get the cally ges set for her.......he sold a ton of this set to guys buying golf set for their wife and they loved them.....it also takes out the guessing game on their part......

would this set be suited for a "shorter" player........about 5'?

holla!!

Hermes -

The GES clubs are much shorter than standard ladies clubs, and another line you can look into is the Womens line of Perfect clubs. My wife got a couple of those for herself, they're even shorter than the GES, just not as many different clubs to choose from. One woman my wife has talked to at the range (in fact, the woman who introduced her to the GES clubs) is only 5'1" or so, so I'd bet your wife would be okay with those clubs.
