How do you break out of a ball-striking slump?

Curious to hear how you guys get things turned around when your ball-striking goes south, for no apparent reason... I'd been hitting it pretty well for a while, but have played 3 rounds lately that were just UGLY. Lots of shots where you just kind of look at the ground after the shot and think "what in the world was THAT??"

What do you guys do when your game seems to fall apart overnight?

One way you could do it, the way the pro I see does it, is to hit half 7 irons tee up until you get in a groove. Then start working your way up to a full swing. This works well if you are in a big funk.

If you're like me and are just having a little trouble finding the sweet spot,

#1 Get lots and lots of range balls.

#2 Start with your PW and try to hit the ball as low as you can. Really hit down on the ball, deloft the clubface, take a huge divot. Work through all your clubs and when you get to your long irons, think about hitting Tiger's stinger.

This really helped me, brought ballflight down, improved contact, and even gave me a little more distance. It even gave me a new shot to hit on the course, say, into a stiff wind. :)

Actually this just happened to me. On Thursday I hit the ball excellent but then the weekend comes and on the range I am hitting the ball horribly, after about 3 weeks of solid striking. So now its monday and I go to practice and it is almost back to good. I figured it was mental for me, either that or my back injury might play in a little. So you just have to get in a natural groove and try and not think much and let the swing come back to you. Good luck!

How did Michael Jordan break out of a shooting slump?........focused on his target, believed it would go in, and kept putting up the three-pointers. :)

I often will play/practice with headphones on. This distracts me enought to not over analyze my swing. Sometimes the slump gets worse because you can not get it out of your head. Headphones also gets your tempo back in line.....just don't play any heavy death metal!

Some of the best shots I hit are the ones that I know I can pull off and just hit the ball without any tension and nice tempo. I did not think about the swing, I made the shot in my head a reality. The second I have multiple swing thoughts, it's all over.

Something that worked for me over two slumps in the last 4 years. Take an 8 iron with a couple of buckets of balls. Tee the ball up and take full swings but hit the ball only 100 yds. It takes a while to get the hang of it because the tendency is to decelerate through impact. However, after a dozen balls or so, I start to make center face contact. I do this for several sessions, working my way through the bag after the first session. Increase your yardage goal as the clubs get longer. You will soon find that your swing speed increases naturally as the timing and rythmn start to come back. YMMV but it works for me. For me, as the swings get worse, the tension increases and I grip the club harder and try to "hit" the ball more instead of swinging through. This drill fixes these problems.

buy new irons = classic. hahahaha

tempo is teh best bet and ball placement. I woiudl look at where your ball placement is in your stance. at least that and tempo is usually my issue with ball striking. make sure yoru swinging on plane too. that is prob teh most common thing.

or..................hat backwards, one sock up, half tuckin shirt etc etc

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
