Who works with a weekly teacher?

Hey guys i was just wondering how many of you have your own swing coaches. I finally found the one i have been looking for. I was very happy how i played this summer but i got into a slump this fall that i just couldnt shake. I then met a teacher who played on the tour for awhile and played in the U.S. Senior Open last year. Hes a great guy and hes got my swing back on track (it somehow got very very bad at the end of the fall) to a point where i can go out on the course confident that i will play like i didnt this summer. If there are any of you guys out there who are very serious about your golf games and play alot (on this site im sure all of you) then i would highly recomend your own teacher to go to each week. Probably one of the best investments in golf!

I wish I can afford that. I'm a FIRM believer in consistent instruction, but I simply cannot afford it too often. I try to see someone at least every 6-8 weeks or so, just to make sure I'm on track, and "tuned up". Right now - I see 3 different instructors, each of which has a unique style, and helps refine my game in various places.

For anyone who does NOT see an instructor - I feel you are doing yourselve a disservice. Not everyone must have a picture perfect swing, but a good instructor helps you refine your game in ways not possible by reading books, magazines, or videos.

I work pretty closely with an instructor, and we've been trying to simply build my swing up in pieces since November. He gives me one or two things (max) to work on and I go for a month and try to get them down. Then I come back and we put something else in. We're finally getting the last pieces in, but it's nice because on course my head's not piled up with swing thoughts.

For you guys who see an instructor every week, how do you keep from getting too technical? At some point, don't you just run out of stuff to work on, and he's basically charging to sit there and watch you hit balls?

There will always be stuff to work on but he helps we work on all aspects of the game so we are always busy. I may eventually start going to see him once every two weeks if my swing ever gets to a point where i can easily notice and fix any problems that i have, but im not sure if that will happen. Like i said hes always looking at somthig to see if it could be better (as of right now at least) and we are always working. Its somthing to look forward to every week.

By the way today was the first day our course actually opend up and i could have hit the ball any more solid.....except for a few drives which were alittle off the heel. I pared 1 through 3 then doubled 4 cause i lost my tee shot but still made a par 5 with my second ball for a double. Birdied the next hole then, then tripled the hole after that, lol i was kinda embarrased, then pard 7. I was 4 over going into 8 then stuck a 2 iron to about 5 feet and drained the birdie put. Drained aabout a 30 ft birdie on nine for a 2 over 38. Overall i can see drastic improvments in my ball striking. I also seem to have my distance control down. I know that it was because of my teacher that im hitting it so much better. If i was swinging like i was at the end of the fall the number would have been much much higher. However i was happy for shooting that score for my first time out this year. It just goes to show you that if u find a teacher you like and trust they can install great confidence in your game.

I see a guy once every couple of months, just to put my swing on video, check out my angles and make sure I'm not reverting back to any old habits. Other than that, I get on here every day and ask questions if I'm working on something. I play with a lot of scratch or better players and they all know my swing well enough to tell if something is out of whack. Of course they won't tell me until AFTER the round, when they're collecting my money....oh by the way, JP, you looked a little flat all day...just thought I'd let you know.

Believe it or not, Slicefixer has some spectacular posts on here that have helped me tremendously. I'm a good player and have a decent understanding of swing talk and MY swing mechanics so I'm able to decipher what he's saying and incorporate it into my swing.

Well seriously SF...there's a lot of smart folks on here that know a lot about the golf swing but most people have a hard time putting it into words that the average weekend warrior can understand. At least for me, you have a way of hitting the mark...you'll write a post and it will make total sense to me. My swing is so much more consistent after "working" with you on keeping it short and connected. I used to get a little loose and disconnected with my swing, especially with the driver....when my timing was on, I could hit it 300 or so but when it was off...yikes...I could hit the biggest, longest hook you've ever seen. Now I may have given up some yardage but I can tee up 20 balls and hit 20 drives that look almost identical to each other. I've never been able to do that before and I'm still hitting it 270 or so, which is plenty long for me.

I can still tee it high and move it up a little more in my stance and REALLY go after it if I want but there's rarely a place for that on the golf course....it's amazing how easy the game can be when you're in the fairway 80% of the time.

This accuracy has rubbed off on all of my clubs and the tighter my swing feels the better.

I promise, one of these days I'm going to figure out how to get my swing on here for you to disect for me.

Enjoy the Master's...you lucky dawg. The closest I can get to a Major over here in California is the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines...but you better believe I've already got a room reserved. :idhitit:

What dogs ya got in the fight, if you're allowed to say??? Is there a qualifier near your neck of the woods?

Man, that would be something. To qualify for the Open...I can just imagine being on the range, trying to warm up...but all the while looking up and down the range at all of my "idols".

I'm just trying to play well in some state amateur stuff...and have fun doing it.

Don't really like to say publicly.....but I'll PM you.......there will be 10 or so......several have qualified in the past......one of em' better damn well qualify in 08' and take my arse with him!...:idhitit:

(IF I can lose about 30 I might even give it a go myself.....made it to 2nd stage numerous times.....cannot get through the friggin' Sectionals.....close but no cigar.....but I'd probably post a couple of 90's @ Torrey @ 7,500 with R O U G H......could get interestin'......)

You're not kidding about Torrey being tough...the track is arleady tough...long....every hole seems into the wind. But then they narrow the fairways and grow the rough up.....holy cow. I'd be happy to keep it under 100....I'd like to think I could throw up an 85 or something half-way respectable but that would be a fight for sure.

I gotta give it to those guys for hanging in there for 4 days....grinding it out every hole, that's tough.

If you've got time...I've got a post about shoulder alignment that nobody has responded to. I guess I've been doing the common mistake of reaching forward with my right hand when I take my grip and that would throw my shoulders open at setup. Now that I'm more conscious of keeping my shoulders aligned it feels a little weird. To take my grip without moving my right shoulder forward, since I have short arms, it feels like I have to really tilt my shoulders to the right.....can that be 'over-done'?

If you take your stance and tilt to the right until your hand reaches the top of your knee....that's about as tilted as I am but it seems too much.
