Knee Flex

How much?

For the past several years, my handicap has hovered around 10-12. Aside from the short game, I am prone to bad ball striking days. Last night at the range, I tried flexing my knees more at setup so that I could begin to feel the weight on my thighs. Long story short, I hit the ball farther and was much more consistent, presumably as a result of having a more stable base. When I look at tour pros, most don't seem to flex their knees all that much, except for the taller guys. Because I'm not especially tall (5'10"), I wonder if the increased knee flex is a bandage for another problem. Maybe I should just be happy that I'm hitting the ball well. Anyone have any thoughts/recommendations for proper amount of knee flex? Thanks in advance.

Very good question. If you stand erect, at attention, you will notice that your weight is balanced predominately on your heels. While keeping your weight balanced over your heels, gradually bend your upper body forward, at the hip sockets. Your knees should gradually begin to flex as they move forward toward your toes. As a general rule, your knees should only move forward until the tip of the knee is approximately over the point where your big toe connects to the foot. If your knees move any farther, you should feel your weight gradually move from the heels to more toward your toes.
