Cobra SS Forged vs Srixon I-506

Hi guys, before i ask my question I would like to let you know that I really enjoy your board. I have been reading posts for the past 1.5 months or so and have gotten a lot of good ensight. Enough of the mushy stuff!

I am a 9 handicap and currently play MacG 1025 CM set with rifle 6.5's My ss is 110-115 and carry my pw 145. I have a steeper swing and am more of a hitter than a swinger, very high ballflight which I like most of the time.

I am looking for a more forgiving set of forged full CB's. The clubs that I mainly narrowed it down to are the Cobra SS forged and the Srixon I 506. I do not like offset. Is the offset close to the same on these 2?

Which of these 2 sets would you reccomend for my game and wants? I've read a lot of posts on the two but haven't seen a direct comparison. If you could give me some pros and cons it would be great.

The 3rd contender is the Nike Pro Combo OS but they are a somewhat distant 3rd.

I will probably reshaft with black golds down the road.

Thans in advance for your comments,

Marcus

Marcus,

Tough one. You might not get a lot of play with this thread because few have had both to compare. I have had the SS in my hands but never the Srixon's. I have 2 very close friends that both bought the Cobra SS forged and cant say enough about them. Very underrated club in my opinion. Also the current Corba cb forged is simular to the SS in many ways. I have hit that head and think highly of it also. They love the SS and would never turn back.

Forged and more forgiving than many. I would play them all day.

Thanks for the thougts. I would happily give up 10 or so yards to get some better accuracy, I just cant calm my swing down.

As hard as you swing, your shaft selection is probably going to be more important than the head. Srixon offers a lot of shaft options at no extra charge. One of them is probably right. I have the I-506's. Not a lot, if any, offset and a fairly high launch. Very solid club.

I agree - the Srixons give you lots of options at no extra cost.

I hit both irons and really liked the Srixons much better. The sole is much more versatile, the forging feels better (more solid - maybe partly due to the extra mass behind the sweetspot?), they seem to be more forgiving yet maintain the player's look from address. Just a great overall set.

I liked the Cobras and also the Titleist 735's, but the Srixon seems to be a cut above for me.

The SS Forged win hands down. Had them four years but recently sold them for some i5's. The SS Forged feel better, are more forgiving and are easier to hit. Yet they still have a compact head with almost no offset. I'd pick them over the I-302's any day.

You can't go wrong with either iron.

The I-506 has a somewhat spacy cavity back design which add to the overall forgiveness of the iron.

The SS forged is a classic, pure and simple in the design - but to me the Srixon I-506 felt a bit better on both pure strikes and off center strikes.

The offset on both are small - maybe a slight edge here to the I-506.

The sole on the I-506 is clearly wider than on the SS forged- but the I-506 still goes through pretty deep rough with surprising ease.

The cavity design of the SS foged is more purty - simple and elegant.

The technolgy in the Srixon I-506 and the fact that it is the only forged iron that is struck forged 6 times makes this iron the only that wil match a cast iron when it comes to durability AND forgiveness - but still feels very soft - not Mizuno soft, but as soft as the SS forged.

As I say, you can't go wrong with either of the two.
